I've heard it's based on the latin word for celestial or heavenly

Actually CELICA or SEELICA is the mythical japanese name of a witch that would ride a dragon.

I've translated the C-One website before, and that's what comes up whenever they're referring to the Celica.

Toyota named the car "Celica," which derived from medieval Spaniards that used Latin and it's literal translation is a plural form of "celestial" as in "celestial things". The original dragon logo depicts a celestial blue dragon; symbol of the East and representative of the Emperor and celestial power. The dragon logo emblem depicted above adorned the first of the first generation Celicas. rice

That makes no sense what so ever confused a japanese car named by midievil spaniards that spoke latin. And why is it plural when its one thing??

And fyi in japan the car was called "SERIKA DARUMA" or just SERIKA or just DARUMA (which I believe means dragon) back in the day.

And yes the blue dragon badges are still available at Cabe toyota here in So Cal grin

I think Celica means "hot car." Only if its a 7th gen. thumbsup

It could mean heavenly or celestial, too. thumbsup
