I hate the fact that the front wheels of my GT lock up if I brake too hard. It's fun in the rain, but it's also scary. Is the ABS system just a sensor or is there a major difference between an ABS equipped car's brake system vs. one without ABS? confused

yeah you need the ABS sensor on the brakes, replace the old lines from the brake master cylinder to the new lines with the ABS controller and i think you need a new ECU or something (not really sure.)

You can train yourself to have human ABS, just pump your brake and you'll come to a stop faster. try this:
press the brake pedal hard at first then try to feel when it starts to fade (runs out of bite) then lift off 40% then press gain then lift off 20% then press again. keep doing this as much as you need.

I have ABS but I'm used to pumping, a few times I pumped my ABS. I don't do it anymore, but my other cars I have to. rofl

My SR5 4x4 doesn't have ABS, so I pump them. spineyes

Maybe you can find a complete set in a junk yard. thumbsup

ur not supposed to pump your brakes when you have abs.. anyway abs increases your stopping distance (one disadvantage) but it keeps the car in control because wheels dont look up spineyes stick with non abs unless it really annoys you or you actually loose control in your car

I'll try that. They usually lock up when I react without thinking and slam the pedal down. I think I can get into the habit of pumping them though. wink

If you wanted to add abs you would need the sensors at the wheels $120 each , and the ACTUATOR, which typically runs for $1100 (this is where all the brake lines connect). Not to mention those sensors run to wiring harnesses that non abs cars have no pigtails for ... so you would need the main engine harness which also runs for about $900-$1100. Its financially retarded to attempt thumbsdown

I'd rather have my wheels lock then give that much money to the stealership.
