Silverstar bulbs?

Ok so last night i was coming home when i noticed that one of my rather new MTEC bulbs was out (right side). Since i would have to wait a while (shipping and so forth) have you all heard about the Silverstar bulbs (not shure if thats the right name). Anyways my friend got some and man those things look bright and white, im thinking on just going for those since i dont really want to wait, so basically has anyone had any experiences with that brand of bulbs???

I have just had two new sets of MTECs burn out on me within just a few weeks of install. Funny thing is my first set on MTECs lasted over a year, anyway sick of the problem I went to Silver Stars. They are just as bright but not as white as the MTECs, MTEC has a slight blue tint where Slilver Star has a slight yellow tint. Not at all yellow like stock, just a hint of yellow, very little really.

To be honest I don't think I would notice the lack of blue if I had not done a side by side with the one MTEC that still worked.

Anyway I have had the Silver Stars in a week, so far so good. My first new set of METCs lasted 3 days the second new set lasted 2 weeks, sad really.

I have silverstars in my highbeams, & MTEC's in my lowbeams. Since the lowbeams are on the most I have the MTEC's. I don't really like the blue bulbs in the high beam area, and I don't use my highbeams all that often so I put the silverstars there since they have a glear bulb.

i have silverstars, they look much better than some really yellow ones that were on my car when i got it, but the silverstars lasted from end of feb. to beginning of may. thats when my engine stopped, and my lights have been off since then so i don't have a clue if they are still going to work when i get it back running or what because a friend dropped one of the headlights

Most speed shops have them in Canada. I'm guessing in the US it's the same and probably more places. PIAA's are more expensive but I think well worth the $$$ thumbsup

The only reason PIAA is more expensive is because they can be. People will buy them mainly for the brand name. They assume brand name = quality, but that's definitely not the case. They're just as good as any other blue bulb out there, and have failed many beam pattern geometry and illumination distance tests just like your average blue bulb.

BTW, Osram Silverstars > Sylvania Silverstars

The Sylvania version isn't as bright as the Osrams (Osrams aren't DOT approved because of this). Sylvania is actually Osram's US brand, so they're the same manufacturer with the same quality.

I got a set of Silverstars on my Z. I Love them! I'll take some pics in a bit. Clean white light, brighter than my stocks smile.

If you're just looking for color, get the cheapest bulbs you can find. All blue bulbs are basically the same when it comes to quality, and have the same chance of burning out.

If you're looking for a whiter light on the road (but not really white HID type light from the bulbs themselves), but don't want to sacrifice visibility, get either Osram or Sylvania Silverstars, or Philips Blue Vision. Keep in mind that they have the same chance of burning out as any other white/blue light, though.

Anything halogen bulb that uses Xenon gas will burn out faster than a regular halogen. The reason they use Xenon is because it helps cool the filament better. Bulb companies are able to produce brighter light by making the filament thinner, but it also reduces their lifespan by making them run way hotter. The Xenon gas is only there to help longevity, but it can only help so much.

get anything, they are all the same. HID is the best way to go though. other than that, they are basically all the same, just make sure you get H7.

FYI

Info on Sylvania SilverStar bulbs (and other Sylvania bulbs):
http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/Products/ProductComparison/default.htm

Info on Philips products (CrystalVision, BlueVision, etc.):
http://www.nam.lighting.philips.com/us/automotive/products/index.php

GE bulbs (apparently doesn't make 9005 bulbs though):
http://www.gelighting.com/eu/automotive/premium.html

If you want to go cheap:
http://www.4apc.net/parts_html/light_bulbs.htm

and then there's always MTEC, PIAA, eBay, etc.
