Well, my car has been on the market for five weeks now with only a few calls, and no serious offers. I have it listed at Edmunds.com private-party price (kbb doesn't have the action package and other stuff listed as options), and would even come down maybe 1k off of that. Still, nobody seems interested.

The 04's will be gone soon... and I'm thinking that buying an outgoing model year convertible in the winter would probably lead to a pretty solid deal. If my car doesn't sell by this coming weekend, should I just bite the bullet and trade her in? I really hate the idea of loosing a couple of grand that way, but I do see some advantages. For one, I'd know when I was getting rid of the car, so I'd have time to take the stereo stuff out and put the stock stuff back in. Also, there is just the time issue. I'm a very busy person, and leaving my car at the autofaire every weekend is a pain.

Is selling an 03 for close to book price really difficult enough that I should just give up?

Try listing you car on AutoTrader and on cars.com Those seem to be two of the most popular places when it comes to buying used cars, personally I found my caron AutoTrader. At least give it a shot.

I hope everything goes well for you dude.

Rev - don't give up, you'll get financially bitchslapped on the trade-in!

Suggest you do place a 2 week virtual ad in cars.com and autotrader.com, as well as local bargain news. Include pics! These should total less than $100 and you're sure to get some hits!!

I got $2500 more than trade-in allowance by selling to private party a mere 2 weeks AFTER I got my new Celi! If your car is desirable, it will sell eventually. The question is you need the $$ before hand to finance the new purchase...

Instead of just agreeing to what everyone has said, I agree with your thinking at the moment. What kind of car are you wanting to get, BTW? If you get the convertible in the spring/summer, the dealers will obviously have more of a market to sell to. No one wants a convert. in the winter. So I say give the classifieds a few more weeks, then see to it that it's traded in.

Or better yet, somehow find a way to get it accidentally totalled, and insurnace will just give you money. wink

put it on autotrader.com, cars.com, recycler.com
make sure you include nice words in the description like looks and drives brand new, mention it if it has factory warranty left on the car. write a little desciption about the car so the buyer or whoever sees it will know that you know wut you have and taking care of it. plus take off all the aftermarket parts off the car, itll be sold easier that way. im assuming that you want over 20,000$, think of it this way, who can afford to pay 20Gs cash nowadays? its tough, plus its gonna be hard to sell a used car for that price, ppl are always gonna complain. its gonna be real tough to sell the car man, but if i were you i would wait to sell it private cz i hate dealerships period. they always fuckin rip you off. when you buy a car, they rip you off. when you trade a car, they rip you off. when they sell ur car back to someone, they will murder them. yea thats how business works, but these guys are pushing it too much with the prices. if you can, and if you have a good credit, buy the s2000 with a little or no down payment at all, and pay for it monthly for 72 months lets say. once you sell the celica, take all the money you got from it and pay it on the monthly bill. ur payments will drop ridiculously, and you can finish the payment as soon as you want. good luck

i couldn't sell mines because people were saying that they could put in a couple more grand and get a brand new one. i wanted to go to a dealership and see how much was the maximum i'll get from a trade in and then try to sell it private party a little over that. maybe you can try that. good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone.

I'm going to keep trying to sell it for now. If nothing happens by this time next week, I'll probably take it to a couple of dealers to see what they will offer me. I mean, I'm selling a 03 GTS with factory action package for the same price as I've seen a stock 04 GT go for on a dealer lot. I'm just having a hard time believing nobody even wants to try lowballing an offer.

One way or the other, I plan to make my move before the 04 S2k's are off the lot.

I almost bought a VW bus as a second car, back when I had the Miata. My plan was to remove all the seats except for the driver's, then install furnature and a system. rofl

Good luck man. I've been tring to sell my 2000 GTS 6-speed for 12K, with only 59k miles on it. The price is well below the Blue Book value but I havent have any luck yet. Looking to get the the big boy (350Z).
