man i ordered trails 3zz kit and i just got an email form the tec saying that i should decress the rpms to 7000 but 7500 would be ok but would lessen the life of the engine. man i just got a pfc so i could up it because i have an 02 now i have to lower it back down. im tring to do a 3zz turbo do you guys thing i will waste a lot of power having to shift that low or it would be good because the turbo would respool and boost not just lift????

dude are you nutz, turboing a 3zz with compresssion of 13:1? im not a celica guru but it sounds dangerous.

And if your rpms get lowered to 7000, thats good it means your torque curve will be better. i think.

sounds like you'll be the test mule.

Maybe trial has broken a few 1zz cranks reving higher than 8K, maybe they haven't.

either way theres only one way to find out.

good luck thumbsup
can you ask the tech what they've actually done and/or broke with their Celicas?

I get my kicks on EC.

I could have sworn that they recomend 7500 rpms...weird. I really wouldn't worry about power loss.. With the 3zz you get hardcore torque. thumbsup

Trial is BSing you. thumbsdown On their site, they say the stock valves are the weak part of the engine, and can only take up to 7000RPM, which makes no sense at all since they can take at least 9000 RPMs with valve springs and a PFC. Their Stroker Kit is limited to 8000, though. Probably due to weight issues because of the increased piston travel.

Officially, it's from some Toyota cars in Japan and Asia, I believe. A 1.6L 4cyl with around 100hp. There's also a 4ZZ with similar size and output. Trial probably came up with the 3ZZ name from adding parts from the 1ZZ and 2ZZ together to make their stroker kit. Guess they didn't do their homework (which would also explain their GTS header wink ).

matt at monkey wrench racing has a monster turbo 1zz engine pushing 385 whp and 295 ft-lbs of torque, and revs to 8300 rpm!!! he has the pfc, and the MWR valves and valve springs...if you build your car right it will hold...its just gonna cost you a lot of money...oh and with all that torque you will end up putting out, you may want to look at the c2 power tranny

He's definitley gonna need the C2 tranny. Even with a turbo kit on a regular 2ZZ, pushing 300hp will pretty much blow the stock tranny. frown

C-One only sells gears, and they're about as expensive as the C2 tranny (especially because of the complicated install), which is way stronger. The gears would be bad for a turbo, anyway, because they make the gears even shorter. You'd waste time from continually shifting. Gear ratios that close are unnecessary for a turbo car because a turbo gives you a much wider powerband. The only thing the C-One gears are good for are NA GTS', since they'll allow you to land in lift all the time.
