I saw this show on TV where some dork with a prelude sank 12 grand into his engine, but after they dyno'd it for the first time he only gained 15HP. He said he felt like he just got kicked in the face.

Allow me to vent here - MOST MOD'S DON'T WORK!!
unless you know what you're doing that is..
and it seems especially ture for celicas ..

I have a GT, I lowered it and put on 17's.. I'd like to put on a new exaust, intake, lighter flywheel.. but thats what this chump with the prelude did.. all for 15 extra HP

Im not saying I'm against mod's, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't know how to properly tune my car, and hence don't want to spend money to loose power.. so, I'm going to keep it stock at least until I learn more..

I know a lot of you have sank major $$$ into your cars - please let me and everyone else know what works..

cheers

Sorry, but if you put 12k into a car and only get 15hp...you are definately doing something VERY wrong. In fact I call BS. A turbo for a prelude is 6k MAX INSTALLED. I have seen a stage 2 dyno that yielded an 80hp gain to the wheels. I am sure if you spent the other 6k on tuning you could squeeze out another 25...or more. I really don't know that much about preludes...or any honda for that matter. confused

However, I KNOW they mod better than a GTS thumbsup

I heard about that show...my friend saw it. I don't know of anything you could do to an engine for 12grand that wouldn't increase it's power DRAMATICALLY unless you got it plated with platinum. Something is definitely off...i've seen some turbo preludes that are crazy fast.

maybe he put 12 grand into his car, not just his engine.. what ever it was, I think he was expecting about 50 extra HP..

For those who don't want to get a CAI or SRI, but want more performance from their airbox, not only take out the butterfly valve and put in a K&N performance air filter, but remove the engine plastic that goes right in front of the airbox. I did this and I swear the torque on my engine took off! Thanks to CID498 for the tip! thumbsup

simply upgrading your suspension will improve performance without uping your HP wave

although dynos are great for engine - they do not grade overall performance tongue

the only reason i would ever use a dyno would just to ensure everything is tuned properly. don't really care or would ever care exactly how much horsepower it's putting out. i swear to god, people ask me everyday at work what kind of engine my car has and nobody even believes me when i tell them it's a 1.8L 140HP...they think i'm lying or something confused
