i wouldnt mess around with reducing the weight one the doors if your car is gonna be your daily-driver.

i think its heavy for a reason - to protect you from accidents - esp. if you get hit from the sides or the door area.

that's right, you don't want to mess with making the door out of carbon fiber, and taking out the side steel door beams unless you only drive the car on the track. But really weight's not the issue so much as the energy of impact they are designed to absorb since the doors are relatively light in a very light car.

I agree with everyone...

Toyota did an awesome job designing the Celica... but the doors are the one thing that reminds me of an American car. Too heavy, and the two spot they rest at on the hinges are in the wrong spots.

the reason of this thread is because i have lambo doors and i'm getting actuators installed. the actuators support 75 lbs. i'm pretty sure that'll cover the doors but i'm just worry that when i'm on a hill or something it wont be able to.

well a weight reduction wouldnt be nessesary on the streets so it doesnt matter if he takes off the doors or not, racing is for the track, hell run just the front clip and the chasis, that would be a huge reduction in weight, and seeing our car is front wheel drive the rear of the car would not matter (no huge ass spoilers needed)

yah, the door should be less than 75lbs. the shocks on the VDC (look ravertony im using it in the correct term grin ) should be strong enough.

I swear that the doors on a celica are the heaviest I have ever felt in my life! I was at an AUTO X event and I compared it to a 240 SX... Celica was way heavier. angry

I've wondered about how those side door beams could be effective considering they are only 3/4" thick and don't seem that heavy (I know since I can see them all the time). well I won't question Toyota engineers since they've done the calculations.

Its not really their thickness that does it, its the fact that they are hooked to the firewall on one side & the locking pin locks them to the frame on the other side.

In an accident they will not break & they pull on the firewall & the unibody & that gives it strength. The energy of the accident is obsorbed using the entire side of the car & not just one point. Good stuff. thumbsup

My old 87' z28 camaro had the heaviest doors in the world, same for my freinds 87 firebird. You have to get like a running head start and push them just to close them. When my friend got in a accident and they had to replace the door, it took four guys that looked like football players to hold the door in while it was being installed. lol
