Get MDF wood and most audio places will sell you carpet by the square yard.

yeah my friend and I built a few boxes. If you make it out of plywood it'll sound like shit. My friend and I did a lot of custom stuff with the box as far as shape and what not. A helpful tip that helped us. If you want to conserve weight you don't have to make the WHOLE box out of MDF. Just make a smaller box to fit inside the custom inclosure to hold the sub out of MDF. Then you can get the sound of an MDF box and the weight and versatility of a plywood one. It'll save a lot of weight and money. Also just like spyder posted, audio places will sell the carpet.

SWEET, awsome info dude because the main concern is weight for me. Im deweighting the car and adding a stereo with a sub so its kinda an oxy moron but i want the best of everything. great info dude ima do it your way with mdf and another kind of wood for the amps. next step is find an actuator or something where i can move the amps in and out for easy access while saving as much trunk space as i can thumbsup

Maybe you should just get a prefab box if you are trying to save weight. That way when you go to the track you can just pull the wires off and take the box out. Just a thought I personally had a box built.

just make the box mount into the trunk but able to be unmounted for track purposes. Have like hidden "hinge style" pin and hole things or whatever you wana do. You can also use the plywood to make moveable ampracks that attach to the MDF or plywood enclosure for the mdf.
