its not hard to replace the accessory belt...but the timing chain is another story entirely...check the shop manuals under the tech section of the gallery

No, but the tensioner is another story.

Check the gallery section for the tech book.

Well it cost me around $300 to get belts and tensioners and labor at the dealer on my 1995 Eclipse GS-T, but since the Celica is n/a it should be somewhat cheaper, I'd guess somewhere around $150-200 at the most. I'm not exactly sure but usually when the local Toyota dealership sends out flyers on specials that they have on oil changes, belt changes, etc.. it's fairly cheap but always EXCLUDES turbo cars.
Might as well get the AEM pulley set, I believe they also come with belts and have them installed instead of stock since the warranty is out.

To replace the tensioner you got to lift the engine a bit, cos the main screw for it just would not come out. Thats the biggest trick either on GT or GTS.
The belt is just simple. You just need a long 19mm tool.

Pick up a Goodyear Gatorback belt and give it to the dealership to install when they replace your tensioner. The Gatorback is synthetic, and made specifically to eliminate squealing. So if your tensioner dies, you won't have to deal with the annoying noise, or pay for another tensioner replacement. I've been running on a broken tensioner for 80K with no problems. smile

Nope, only covered under bumper-to-bumper 3yr/36k.
