my friend has a civic with a h20 engine on it, and he was showing me how fast it is, and wen he shift it was so smooth, my car is nothing like that. so i asked him and he said it was my engine mounts, were do i get after market ones? thanks

h20? never heard of that one. maybe k20 or h22.

motor mounts. never heard of it being a performance part before.

Energy Suspension makes polyurethane engine mount inserts. You can get them from PTuning.com. They're sold as Toyota Matrix inserts, but the Matrix has the same engine mount bushings as we do. They'll get rid of a ton of wheel hop, and help shifting a lot since they reduce engine and tranny movement between shifts.

Another way to go about doing this is to fill your stock mounts with liquid polyurethane. I did it to mine using Shore 80A polyurethane from McMaster.com, and it works great. The advantage to doing it yourself is that you can control the stiffness of the polyurethane. The Energy Suspension mounts are rather hard, and they transmit some engine vibrations into the cabin at idle. I can barely feel any difference in vibration with my mounts, and they're still very effective in controlling wheel hop and improving shifter feel.

sorry yeah he has a h22 the prelude engine, blue my friend was telling me about the wheel hop thingy, and i mean seriously wen he shifted it was so smooth and fast, i really wanna do that, my car is a bitch to shift, its hard to get in gear and ones i do it moves the hole car, i talked to my friend with the rsx and he said that they will make the car shake ones im in idle. so there is an issue here, but like you said it could be fix with the Shore 80A polyurethane, i mite give you a IM later because im at my gurls and her computer is very slow, so ill talk to you about it later, if there is any more info about this please post here thanks

there's an install writeup for the front ES insert on the *other* site. The rear's a pain in the...well rear. I put the rear in at the same time I did my clutch/fw install (when I dropped the whole subframe), so it wasn't really a chore in itself.

Yup, that's them. The front mount is a piece of cake. 3 bolts easily accessible from the engine bay and under the car. The inserts just slide into the empty space in the stock mounts.

The rear is fun. wink 3 bolts and 2 nuts, I believe, but it's hard to get at. You need to go through the wheel well for the main bolt, then under the car near the header for the other two and the nuts. That's the easy part. Now you have to wiggle the mount out of its spot, where there's barely any room to work with. It's a good idea to have the front mount unbolted so you can rotate the engine back and forth to make more room. You really don't have to take the mount out of the car completely, just enough to be able to put the inserts in. Then you get to wiggle the mount back into place.

The engine mount (only one) in a Celi is an air mount. One of the best setups you can find. There is nothing wrong with the tranny mounts (3) either.

The rear tranny mount has a bad habit of tearing. Happens to a lot of owners (many find out while they install the ES inserts), and sometimes it tears so much that it creates a knocking noise depending on throttle input. At the very least, the rear mount should be reinforced. For the price, though, there's no reason not to reinforce the front as well.

It comes with 4 inserts, enough to do the front and rear tranny mounts. Those are the only ones that need stiffening, since they control engine twisting. The engine mount on the left and tranny mount on the right just hold the engine up, and work as a pivot point for the engine.

I didn't use the ES inserts. I filled my stock mounts with Shore 80A polurethane liquid. I easily installed my front one, but the rear I left to my friend's shop, where he also installed my front sway bar. Installing the rear mount isn't fun, and an impact wrench and torque wrench can help a lot (especially the impact wrench to loosen the tight bolts).

From what I can tell, you would need to at the very least use a hoist to take the weight off the mounts. Then you would need to get a wrench inside the mount & unbolt the mount from the tranny, take the bolt out of the mount & take the top half the mount out. This would allow access to the rubber insert. Each one would take some serious work I bet. Unless they are ripped, I wouldn't.

Nope, the mounts that use the inserts aren't weight bearing mounts. They only keep the engine from twisting forward and backward on acceleration. I've seen both of them out at the same time and the engine didn't drop down at all. In fact, it's actually suggested to unbolt both from the engine when installing a header so you can rock the engine back and forth to get more room to work with.

The front mount is a piece of cake to remove. Easier than an oil change. smile Just remove the bolt up top from the engine bay, and the bottom two bolts from under the car. You don't even need to remove the engine plastics. wink The rear is a PITA, though (mainly wiggling it around to put the inserts in, then wiggling it back into place), but it's the one mount that really needs the reinforcement, most likely because it's exposed to the heat of the header (which weakens it, causing it to tear).

I have known about the weak mounts for years and have had worries about mine before there were any aftermarket mounts to put in there. My question is to Blue Bomber or any. Is there any noticeable differences if the engine mounts are worn or teared? I know wheel hop is a big problem, that's why people go for the inserts, filling stock, or solid, but is there a noticeable difference to having torn mounts? On one of my earlier cars (SR-5) the engine went off of the mounts (bad MM) and as I was driving down the road, the damn thing quit on me. I couldn't get it started due to my mounts. That's just for example. How would I know without replacing them?

I would think wheel hop would increase, and like I said, some people have experienced knocking noises when stepping on or letting off the gas. You could also stick your car next to a new Celica and both rev your engines. If yours twists noticeably more than the new one, it's a sign that the rear mount is really worn, and possibly torn. Other than that, I don't think there are any noticeable signs, since the mounts aren't vital to engine operation.

I'd say go for filling the mounts if you don't want moderate vibration at idle. There will still be a bit of vibration, but hardly noticeable.

For the liquid polyurethane at McMaster.com, search for part # 8644K11. BTW, it's about enough to do two sets of mounts, so you can split the price with a friend if you want. wink

Yeah, I did the ones in front and behind the tranny. They're the only ones that will affect anything. You can see the one up front if you take off your left side engine plastic. It's right in the middle. The rear one is right by the front sway bar.

The stuff I used was a two part mixed liquid. Basically, I sealed off one side of the engine mount, mixed the polyurethane liquid, waited about 10-15 min for it to thicken a bit, then poured it into the mounts laying on their sides. Just filled the mounts up to the point right before they overflowed, and let them cure for a little over a day.

I wouldn't waste my money. Why pay to mail your mounts to someone for half a week or more to have him do what you can do in a half hour for less than half the price? thumbsdown Besides the fact that you wouldn't have a car for that whole time if you mailed your mounts out.

my friend and I installed some inserts on his se-r spec v... took along time to install and for the 1st month his car rattled really bad at idle (and when the ac was on for some reason) ... but after a month i guess they had broken in and it lowered his 1/8th time by .2 grin ...

AND IT WAS ONLY 30 BUCKS thumbsup

Yup, that's the mount. smile You'll probably want to unbolt the front before you tackle that one so you can wiggle the engine back and forth. There's very little room back there.

BTW, I've got a couple of spare rear mounts lying around that I could fill with polyurethane, if anyone wants to buy them. grin

Hey Blue, I just got some of that polyurethane stuff in. Do I mix the whole thing together? and how long did you wait to put them in your engine. ...it says it takes 7 days to fully set

Yeah, just dump the bottle into the can and mix till it's even. I put my filled front mount in the day after and had no problems. After about an hour, the liquid become solid.
