like cruise at 110 mph in hot weather (to Vegas)...I've done that and lost oil, though using full synthetic redline otherwise I wouldn't think about driving that speed for several hours.

I get my kicks on EC.

Seriously, if your car is showing this problem, get it to the dealer. Toyota have a modification to fix it, but I hope your car's under warranty because it's $$$ if not..
I got my celica cheap, it had developed this problem and the guy never bothered to fix it - the engine blew. So now I have a 2001 Celica with 900 miles on the engine thumbsup thumbsup

The oil consumption problem is not caused by engine abuse. It is caused by gummed up oil rings. You can get 185psi compression right across all 4 cylinders & still burn a half a quart of oil for every tank of gas. Its crazy! crazy

The oil consumption problem on 1ZZ-FE motors is caused by gummed up oil rings. The build up of half burnt oil causes the rings to stick in a contracted position inside thier ring groove on the piston. This causes them not to come in full contact with the piston walls, causing oil to get by them & to burn off. In fact once it starts, the problem makes it self worse.

The solution is to put a specialized solvent designed for this purpose into the oil. The solvent is supposed to disolve the crud that holds the ring in & free it up. If it works, you will be good as new. thumbsup

Most owners are not aware that this problem exists in their engines. The actual oil consumption doesn't hurt anything. Its when you run dry of oil that the problem starts. I was completely unaware that the problem existed in my old motor & I had run low on oil; the first indication was heavy knocking & it was already too late. No oil pressure indication, no warning, nothing & your motor could be gone that easy.

People, check your oil! Track it & see if you are burning any & how much.
