no this isnt another usher song spineyes
well some of you know that i bought a celica about a month ago and returned it in a day. well, this time i bought it and i will keep it for good.
its a 2002 carbon blue gts with with chrome rims(damn the previous owner), and i think it has RMM side skirts but the fucker installed it like shit. the screws to bolt the sideskirts are from the top, so you can see the screws when you open the door.
the bad thing about the car is that its a salvage, but it was minorly damaged on the fender and door. no frame damage at all, and driver side was completely painted. almost 15,000 miles for $10,000.
i know that noone cares, but im pretty happy especially there are no payments!! too bad i cant drive it til tuesday til DMV opens. sitting in the garage for 3 days begging to be driven.

i got the first car for 21,000 out the door, 03 gts with 10,000 miles. i got it under my name, im 19 with clean driver record. i wanted my mom to be primary driver and me secondary so insurance will be cheaper. it would cost me 450$ a month and 150$ if it was my mom primary. i called the dealer and asked them to switch my name to my mothers, they said no we cant do that. so i was like screw it, take ur fuckin car back and give me my 8000$ back. good thing the dealer(carmax) has that rule 5 day return policy. a month later i got my refund and a week later i got this car. im really glad that i got this instead of the other. this comes with trd spoiler and side skirts, sunroof, 17" wheels, and carbon blue. unfortunately this one has the low rev limit, but im soon to change the ecu with an older model.
3 days too much already, im going down and checkin the car out every once in a while. so far i did the red ac lights with the cellophane wrap, looks pretty nice.
1 question to gts drivers, sometimes when im shifting it to reverse, its not going in the right place and when im letting go the clutch little by little to accelerate, its making a weird ticking noise and the car doesnt reverse basically because its not perfectly in gear. is this a common problem or is it normal or my fault? should i force it in gear harder? this happens only once every 40 times. please help thanx

Your first mod should be an ECU/knock sensor swap so you can bring the rev limiter back up to normal ('02s have a 600 RPM lower limiter than any other year thumbsdown ). smile

Hey, congratulations! Boy that insurance sure can eat you up! Glad to see you've got one you can keep. I've got an '04 GTS. Seems like reverse is always a bit more of a trick to get into, but mine's not as hard as yours sounds. Maybe just because its got a few more miles on it. Anyone else experience it?

Mine is a Brand New 04 GTS TRD Spec Blue and I don't seem to have a rev limiter at all. It screams at 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th. Hmmm maybe this is a bug, should I worry? wtf

You can safely rev up to about 8800 RPM (no more than 9000), so see if the limiter kicks in by then. It'll feel like the car just hit a brick wall and make a really annoying noise, so don't be scared if it does kick in. wink

Yea, the Reverse is a tricky one on the GTS. Took me a while to get used to it and still messes up at times. If you push to hard u'll miss it, if you push to little you will hit 1.

why would he have to find a new engine?? rolleyes wtf he is not doing anything to the engine. If anything he would need a new trany but i dont think he is grinding gears eather. The GTS does have a back up beeper (unless it was removed) that should tell you if you are in reverse or not. wave

salvaged title... you do know that makes the car half the book value right???? you should have paid under 10k for that car like around 7k or 8k

^^ no bud, you cant pay that low for a salvage car. first of all check kbb.com for salvage price, second the car was repaired for 10K$, third ppl have to make profit nomather wut, forth the car has almost 15,000 miles on it, fifth its neat, sixth there were no frame damage at all, seventh very minor damage and repaired nicely, eight salvage doesnt mean the car is fucked up, it could be anything from just a crashed door or just a hit fender, sometimes insurance totals it if they dont wanna deal with it or some other reasons, ninth a fair price for the one i bought would be about 12-13K$. i got it for 10K$ cash so he didnt mind that and i got it with no bargaining and i knew wut i was doing so the guy liked it and didnt mind selling it for that cheap. but yea he still made a profit on it, i assume about 2,000$ and he deserves it for the nice work hes done.
learn before you say something, i worked for a bodyshop and you cant believe some cars being called salvage for their tiny damage.

the trick for reverse is simple. When you put it into reverse keep pressure on the shifter and if it feels like it isn't all the way in slowly let go the clutch and if its not in it will slide in slwoly. It will take practiceuunitl you can get it in reverse quickly. Until then if you have problems just do like i said keep pressure on the shifter and slowly release the clutch.

(Quote)sometimes insurance totals it if they dont wanna deal with it or some other reasons

wtf bs the only time an insurance company will total a car is if the damage out weighs the retail book of the car.

retail book of car $19,525 assuming its 6 speed more for auto. So if thats the case you paid the right ammount.

Its a fact a bank will not finance a car with a salvaged title and even if they did they would only finance half the ammount a clean title is worth at a huge APR cause of the risk they are taking.

(quote)i worked for a bodyshop and you cant believe some cars being called salvage for their tiny damage.

then you should also know that anything that gets damaged on a car can cost an arm and a leg. air bags alone could cost as much a $4500 to get replaced if they go off in an accident. Its ridiculous how much things cost on any cars these days

I am glad that your happy with your purchase I never wanted come off the way I did... But all thing considered, people get into situtaion with cars and they get screwed. Imagine a person buying that car for $19,000, and the car either gets stolen or wrecked. well the insurance company is going to say well this car has a salvaged title and we can only give you 10k or whatever. Salvage also factors into your insurance rate. I have talked to my credit union about purchasing salvage titled vehicles and they strongly advise against it. Your fortunate enough to have 10k saved up to buy it out right. Most people do not have the opportunity to buy a car they have to finance it.

I thought this was kind of funny. Its just one site i was browsing around on from a credit union smile
this is part of their FAQ

Q. Do you finance salvaged vehicles?

^^im talkin with experience.
NO, almost noone will finance a salvage, but there IS a finance company that does it actually. i think its called peoples choice.

and yea yea yea, they say that if the damage of the car is 75% worth the car, then they total it or its some high percentage like that. wells bs, a lot of times the damage could be way less and they still total the car. you cant make me believe something by saying it when i seen it and even have it. how much would a fender and a door cost with driver side fully painted? lets say 5000$, ok then why is it totalled? no airbags opened, nothing touched the hood. when i said i worked with a bodyshop, this guy sells salvage cars you name it, from ferraris to BMWs. the damages are minor damages, car always runs without repair, nothing touched the hood. it is costy to repair, but not as much as 50% of the car. the only fucked up thing about salvage is that its gonna be harder to sell, cz either ppl are just scared of that title cause they dont know much about wut it means or else they afraid somethings fucked up with the car.
one way that cars get totalled is by quote. bodyshop gives the insurance a high repair quote so they total the car. want proofs that a salvage can be a small damage? wait til the bodyshop that fixed my car will send me pix of it hit.

stefanoc - congrats on the new car. thumbsup The reverse thing just takes getting used to. In mine it seems like you actually have to push the clutch in further for reverse than any other gear. idunno

iggy - I hear ya about the rev limiter...mine doesn't seem like it has it either when its warm. But, if the car is cold and try to wind out 1st, you'll find the limiter. laughsilly
