Hey all, I have a strip of real carbon fiber that i am puting on the hood in the stripe from the scoop to the bottom. 1st I wanna see if anyone has a templet I can use to cut the carbon fiber but importantly how shoudl I stick it to the hood. I went to a body shop and they said $100 to glue it on the hood. I was told 3m spray will do the job. I am jsut worried about the heat? Is 3m spray ok or heat or waht woudl you suggest? Someone on this site did it to their spectra blue and curious waht they did.

Ask Blue Batmobile and see if he can send you a template for his center hood stripe vinyl. I definitely wouldn't advise using 3M spray. The wind would probably pull it off after a while. Is the carbon fiber in flexible material form, or solid? If it's just material, it will look horrible just being glued onto the hood. It needs to be molded onto the hood with resin.

It is a rigid clear coated piece. It is flexible enough to be on the curve of the hood. Thakfully though it is paper thin. Someone on this site has a blue celica with a widebody kit that he did this exact same thing to and it looked good. What epoxy shoudl I use? Also I emailed bluebat a while ago and no answer.

You could probably use something like Liquid Nails to attach it, but it won't be able to removed easily, or without repainting your hood. BTW, where did you get a piece of Carbon Fiber like that?

I got the 15x40 sheet of perfect, rigid but still somewhat flexable epoxied piece from a man named John Thorson, eamil at: jthorson@charter.net for 50+ shipping. He sells some stuff on ebay as well. It a much better deal than you can get from most ebay sellers. I am very happy with the sheet, jsut now need ot get it on the hood. Do you think liquid nail will be better than 3m spray?? I figured either way if it ocmes off that peice opf the hood will look liek crap. Then i get bluebats vinyl overlay and its all good wink If anyone else has any ideas of how ot make the template or has a template please let me know. Also opinions are welcomed.

good idea... although I'd still rather have a real Carbon Fiber hood and paint the sides to match the exterior

any other ideas on a good hood adhesive? I was thinking 3m for middle, liquid nails on the very ends. Maybe a very small strip of black electrical tape at the front, not noticable but to prevent wind from going up under it. Any ideas?

3M spray is mainly for fabrics and stuff like that, not stiff pieces that will be exposed to the elements. Try using silicone caulk. You'll have to use something to keep the Carbon Fiber piece in place, but once it dries it'll be fine.

So do i use the silicon to glue it to the hood? and how logn does it take to dry? Thanks blue for all your help. If anyone else has anyhting to add on the subject that would be great, especially about how to make a templet of the inner aread of the hood line, or if someone has one premade. Thanks again.

It'll take maybe half a day for it to actually become tacky enough to hold the stripe on, so you'll want to tape it down with blue masking tape as much as possible so it will keep its shape while drying (like how they appy masking tape after installing a new windshield). I'd say keep the tape on for a day or so, just to make sure the caulk is completely dry.

Thanks blue for all your help. Your a great asset to everythingcelica. I am going to be doing this mod in a bit so seeing if there are any other ideas for adhesives 1st and templets. Thinking of doing the silicon caulk and 3m to hold it down. Anyone know who's blue celica is in the link above, really woudl liek to find out how he did his. Thanks again. Also thinking of using my left over piece to do the license surround. Wont be 3d like the one that recently became popular, but hey got to use what i have. wink
