I used to put 87 gas in my car, but the past two times I put gas I have been using 91. Today I noticed that my car feels a little different. It's hard to explain, but it's like the car drives more smooth. The shifts feel more smooth, etc. It just feels like the car is lighter for some reason.

Maybe I am imagining it? But I know I'm not. cry

It's really hard to explain the difference, but it is bothering me. Even though the difference is somewhat postive (car feels more responsive, lighter, smoother), I'm still wondering if there is something wrong because I don't think a gas can change the car that much confused

it will make a bit difference. no, it wont make ur shifts smoother though hehe. it will give you better throttle response, and saying that you feel lighter is that cz you pushing it lightly and the car is responding a bit better. i really dont know bout this, but i dont think its a good idea to switch back to 87 once you started using 91. im just assuming.

Yeah I'm going to stick with 91, but I was just wondering what the hell it did to my car confused

gas prices are too crazy here for me to use 91 regularly. 87 is already 2.55 around here

Do you have a GTS? If so you should have never been running anything lower than 91 octane.

better gas means better combustion and less burning gas. long story but basically its cleaner so it burns less and you get a bit better output, a little bit more response from a higher octane gas. thats why some gts owners put racing fuel, not that it adds crazy HP, it just gives a better response overall.

Well, as long as you're not getting any knock/ping, 87 is fine. I suppose you might get a little smoother run with higher octane. Whether its worth it you have to judge for yourself. You might try the mid-grade 89 octane as a compromise. Or try running some fuel injector cleaner through the tank, go back to 87 octane, and see what that's like.

91 octane is pretty pointless in THEORY in a GT, however from experience they run better.

I think it's because the engine has multi-point FI.

In other 1zz-ge cars like a corrolla, it doesn't make a bit of difference, but the GT is more highly tuned.

The manual says 87 for GT and 91 for GTS but, I have a GT and use 91 and it just runs smoother. I had to use 87 for a day and my car just isn't liking it. Besides I have 130k on it and I want to help promote longevity as much as possible.
