Not to be a ass or anything but seriourly I think some people on this site need to get some mechanical knowledge, its not that it's annoying or anything but I think its sad that someone with such a nice car can't even due basic maintenance. If you really care for your car you should atleast take an Auto-Tech class at high school or something so you know the basics.
Just my opinion though

I agree...why spend an arm and a leg at the dealer when you can learn to do stuff yourself? (minor stuff at least.)

You don't even really need an Auto Tech class.

You just need the right tools, and a procedure to follow.

Mechanical work is easy (some of it), as long as you know what to do, and what steps to do it in.

Then, after you do that for a while, you can just do your own thing and get it done your own way.

you're obviously here because you wanted to learn... I'm sure the people who you are referring to, are here for the same exact reason you are here for...

...you have to start some place - and by asking questions, you become more knowledgeable wave

lets all stand around and make fun of 1st graders because they don't know shit about multiplications

not fun enough for you? then lets use the abundance of time that we have, to make fun of others for not being as "street-smart" as us wtf

street-smart doesn't happen over night... it takes practice - just ask anyone tongue

STFU!

j/k haha

Actually, it's because I have such a nice car I'm more inclined to take it to the professionals to have it worked on or if I feel uncomfortable with something (wiring, etc) That doesn't mean I don't try things myself. This site has helped me install my intake, paint my console, shortshifter, etc. Shit, I grabbed my razor when I went to brush my teeth this morning. If I can fuck that up, imma leave the hard stuff on my car to someone else.

...why would I change my own oil when I can drink coffee and watch Toyota NOT screw it up for $25?

I like to take my baby to the pro's.

An oil change I could probably dom but why?

Oil will cost me $30 or so alone.

Taking it to the dealer, they will change the oil, check the belts, top-off all the other fluids (excluding gasolinem unfortunately wink ), and rotate the tires, all for around $60.

Plus, if anything happens to go wrong, THEY can fix it and not cost me a dime! grin

Hell, I'm gonna see if they'll take out my stripped screw while they're at it (if they'll do it for free, that is.) It's all about getting as much as possible for as little as possible smile
And the assurance that if something breaks, it will be fixed for free smile

my parents are insisting that i have my intake and rims installed at a shop. i said why bother paying someone for something i can do myself, and also that i won't pay more of my money to have it install. so, if they would rather i have something professionally installed, they'll pay for it.

First off shonan, it appears you're the type who took too many Auto-tech classes in place of basic grammar classes, that you used 'due' instead of 'do' which will make you look dumber than not knowing how to fix something on your car. Everybody has different skills and knowledge, and like isaac said need to start somewhere. I hardly know anybody that knows anything whatsoever about cars...so everything i ever learned came from magazines, tv, and here. Well i also did take a power technology class to learn about engine basics, as well as rebuild an old VW jetta engine...so i obviously agree it's a good idea to at least take that. Just make sure you don't blast people for not knowing something simple if you screw up something simple as well (refer to the "due" vs. "do"...and yes i know this is not english class)

Wow I need one of those lifts for my garage. I do shit myself as well. That way I know what was done right. Took my oil change to toyota once and never will again. Half of the cilps holding the under plastic were missing and I had to buy new ones because they called bullshit on me. And I knew they were there before I went in. angry

Yeah i want one of those damn lifts too...that's sooo nice. If all my money didn't go into my car then maybe i could afford one cry

And it seems like everyone has those problems with the damn clips and the underplastic. Apparently no shop anywhere knows how to take them out without breaking them...and no one will pay the couple bucks for new fasteners.. angry

Vlad you're lucky you have someone to help you out like that. Even if i needed to do that...and told my dad i could do it...there's no chance in hell he would let me. He's so picky about everything i do...it took two weeks of convincing for him to let me put on TRD axle-back exhaust. Hello...two bolts...three hangers...not a big deal...oh well.
