Right now I just used whatever oil toyota uses (I get my oil changed there all the time).
I drive my car hard a lot. Redline it more than a few times a day. However, I check my oil level all the time and its fine, and I get my oil changed every 3000 miles.
Would it be worth it to switch to synthetic oil? Or should I just stick with what I've been doing.
BTW its a GT.

Sythetic is WAY better than regular. Do it. But then again, not your not going to have a motor for long anway, so it doesn't really matter. Save your money, your gonna need a new motor real soon.

you definitely need synthetic...and with driving like that you might want to look into something a little higher in weight like mobil 1 15w-50

on a dif point..i got a 03 gt and i drive it pretty normally(redline like maybe once or twice a month)is wud it be better??that and one more Q..when do i change my oil for first time?(miles) isnt it like at 5k?
it doesnt matter wat u drive or who u driving against its all about how you drive

Are you guys serious? By redlining I mean shifting right at 6900 rpms. I thought you can redline as much as you want and it would only waste gas? What about the people who hit lift everyday in their GTS's?
I'm confused now because I thought there was nothing wrong with taking the rpms up to 6900. What about those street racers who probably do it like 50 times a day?

Use regular oil & save urself the money. Try not to abuse the engine so much.

you guys are crazy if you have a GTS and you dont redline it yhen you should just of got the GT!!! FOR REAL!!! lift does not kick in till 6000 and thats were all the power is. Why do you think Toyota put the change over at 6000 thats right cause the engine was desinged to run at high rpm's and if it was not they would put the lift a 3000 and the redline at 5000. if toyota thought that the engines were not gong to last they would of lowered the rev limiter and by the looks of it when they lowered it in 02 to 7800 they must of not of had a problem with it because they raised it back to 8400 in 03

the Gt hits peak torque in the neighborhood of 4,600 RPM...and max HP at 6,800 rom or something like that...try shifting around 6000 to 6200 rpm and you will be right back in the middle of the meat of the torque curve - and yes toyota built the engines to rev...but The excess heat caused by constnat redlining will burn our your rod bearings...it has happened to quite a few celica owners that beat the hell out of their cars

Same with lift. Just because the engine is capable of doing lift doesn't mean it lasts as long if you continuously hit it. High revving is tough on any engine, whether built by Toyota or not. And as far as it having been a waste to get a GTS if I'm not hitting it every day, thats just a matter of opinion. Even though I've only hit lift maybe 5 times in the three months I've had my GTS, its great to know its there if I want it.

My VVTI seems to hit it's stride about 4,300 rpm at least that's when the engine note changes and the power kicks in. I haven't ever felt the need to redline it, it's all about timing your gearchange so the rpms drop right back at where the power starts. Don't always rely on your gauges - keep your eyes on the road and "Feel The Force, Luke!!"

You're supposed to use 5w-30, 15w-50 is tooo thick and you're probably losing like 5hp from that and you should use synthetic if you are an aggressive driver or do a lot of stop and go traffic driving.
Just because the engine can rev high and is built as a high revving motor doesn't mean it can't break, so there's no point in redlining your car everytime just for the hell it, it just puts unnecessary stress on the engine.

If so, that's why they use 10w-30. That's the thickest anyone should use for there Celica. Anything above 10w-30 robs horsepower from your car, it's too thick! If you look on the oil cap of your engine, you'll see SAE 5w-30. That's whats recommended in your manual.

synthetic! damnit! Good for high heat temperatures and cold temperatures! I would switch if you redline your car that much everyday. And alwyas rule of thumb people and everyone knows this, redlining your car everyday is not good! That's wear and tear on engine. Im sure all you know what i'm talking.

Redlining your motor causes excess stress on the main bearings, connecting rod bearings, piston pins & piston rings. While its obvious a motor will take it quite a bit before it goes, hitting redline in any motor over & over & over again on a daily basis will kill it in a suprising short period of time. I've killed more motors than I can count.
