I just read today that the reason the EVO will never be coming to Canada is that the intercooler piping does not meet Canada's bumper regulations. wtf What the hell does that have to do with anything! I thought it would be something like safety or emissions but no...the godamn bumper. Boo-urns on Canada thumbsdown

that's why it took so long to come to america, too. it couldn't pass US low speed bumber hits.

This is what that means
After the Test Crash result for EVO. @ 25mph.
They tremendus damage to the front bumper and the intercooler. Usually on average car the damage cost is very minimum. However on EVO 8, the damage was over 6000$.
Insurance and their safety law can't afford to have that much of damage. And that is the main reason why they didn't bring the evo8 to canada.

Time to move to the US. tongue

And the warranty issue is that if they find any evidence of you racing your car, they won't fix it for you. In other words, you can have one, but you either have to street race or drive like a Grandma. Racing in a safe environment is a big no no in Mitsu land. rolleyes

the whole mitsu warranty issue was on the Car and Driver, don't know what issue though..but there were one guy where he took his car to the track and mess something up, so when he brought it to mistsu, since it was fairly new, they said "we're not going to fix ur car" and that's it..he didn't even have a chance to say anything..they just tell him he'd have to spend like 6g or something if he want it fix..cuz they ain't fixing it..that's so fuck up..

what it was is that they mitu was reading chat forms and took a list of people with evos that were autoxing and put there warrinty on hold or some shit like that. i think thats bull because i autox and i know you dont go over 60 and i drive on the high way at 60 the only thing i could see being wrong with it is this guy i race with will ride the rev limiter tell he has to brake. ( evo rev limters are hella loud too just a side note)

Who the hell wants a car that can't take a small ipact without causing $2000 damage anyway? My Celi got backed over by a big ass suburban, it pushed & car & trailer back a foot! & all it left was a small scratch. thumbsup

yeah in Vegas I did hear about mitsu dealers sending employees to track night and taking down all the license plate numbers of all the Mitsus there and voiding all of their warranties.

it's just plain hypocritical to market their cars on speed and performance, including them in a high-profile racing movie, and then hang the owners out to dry when they want to enjoy in a safe and legal manner the car they purchased for the love of performance.

I get my kicks on EC.

I heard that the bumper regulations were an easy fix to make "legal" for the united states, it was the fact that mitsu didn't think that there was a large enough market to deem sellable here. When the WRX first came out and dominated sales, mitsu realized that it would be an economically smart move. Hence the battle between the evo and the sti. both companies are trying to "out do" each other. Both cars, are great deals for what you get, but eventually they will price themselves out of the appealed market. Too expensive for an asian sports car, like the supra turbo, 300zx turbo, rx7 turbo. As far as warranty, I have heard the same, but when I first bought my 01 gts, I bent two valves from a mis-shift (3-4) put it in second at about 85-90 miles an hour. Toyota knew what I did, and that I had abused the practice of "normal driving". They threatened not to warranty the damage ($5500). I made threats, writing letters to magazines, newspapers, etc. Telling about how toyota (and particular dealership) wouldn't honor thier extended warranties. Being as this was a somewhat common problem for the 2000-2001 models, Toyota decided to cover the damages. That is why the 02+ have a lower rev-limiters. Eventually this too will be problem for mitsubishi. So buy your evos now.
