hey all newb here..my name is ricky/24 years old..so heres my story..i bought an echo about 7 months when my gp took a shit (i was in a rush) and i test drove a 01 celica gt the other day and now i want to trade it in..it was way faster then the echo,I was told the the gts is even faster ..by how much would you say? I'm no stanger to speed though..i also drag a 91 trans am that im building a blown 406 sbc for (hopefully will be done by this spring) ,I just want a nicer/faster dd.Anyways it pretty hard to find a gts around here,is it worth it to wait and find one or would it be easier to pick up the gtand s/c it?

i think i saw a thread somewhere on here that had a diagram of the possible bolt-ons you could do to a celi and i cant find it now,if any one has it ,i'd appreciate it.
or if anyone knows what kinda hp numbers ALL bolts on would be lemme know..thanks for any help!

-and yes i seached didnt really find
what i wanted to know smile

bolt-ons i have found

-aem tru pulleys
-k & n typhoon
-borla catback
-dc headers
-s/afc

lemme know if i missed anything.
are there any lobey cams/regrinds for the celica engine?

well the GT=140hp vvt-i...GTS=180hp vvtl-i..from wat i've read in the past, the aem pulleys only increase throttle response, nothing much more..some people got problem with it also, just like everything else you have pro and cons..y get k&n typhoon when you can get TPR for 185+shipping (contact Easy_C for info) it prove to be betta then AEM and Injen which is a plus..TPR is also coming out with exhaust with 32whp at Lift (6000rpm+)..they're working on header right now..stay away from DC because they add like 10hp to stock but it won't change/increase after you add other mods..as for s/afc i heard it don't work with celica because the ECU(car's brain) will override it<<someone correct me if i'm wrong..

there are cams for GT but not GTS..there are S/C(TRD) for GT but not GTS due to the low compression or sum shit..most peep are heading toward TPR material now..but you can get the Blitz S/C for GTS..i have a GTS 6spd..love it...well have fun making the decision..i'm sure other peep will add more info for ya.. thumbsup..

Personally, I would buy the GT. Save yourself the extra $4,000 it would cost you to get the GTS and buy a turbo for your GT. If you do that, your already ahead of the GTS. Just my opinion grin

thanks for the responce guys..i wouldt think a s/c would be that applicable for the gts since high comp and boost doesnt mix.pretty much what i want is to have a low/mid-13 sec celica.or is that too lofty of a goal.

*from what ive read a s/c'ed gt is equal a stock gts confused i'd rather have a better platform to start from, and just juice it if i have too. smile

GT + 6grand for supercharger = stock GTS + some torque

I was able to find a used GTS for as good a price as a GT...so it was def. worth it. GTS's have nicer features, 6speed grin and are rarer so you feel a little more unique. I would wait until you find a good deal on a used GTS and then supercharge that. I was able to get a 2000 GTS 6-speed with 58k near perfect condition for $11,200...and only 45 mins from middle of nowhere PA...you can find one thumbsup

Oh and you won't notice the difference between the engine performance of a GT vs. GTS until you hit 6000RPM...that's where the GTS is like "feeding crystal meth to a hyena" -Sport Compact Car Magazine

That goal is not impossible but it is pretty lofty. The only s/c available for the gts is the Blitz, its really expensive like $6k, plus installation and tuning. Even with that you would be around very high 13s. To get to mid or low 13s you would need a turbo and at least 8 psi and drive awesome. On the other hand you could get a GT and turbo it and be really low 14s at about 6 psi. Theres not really a s/c for the GT. TRD makes one for the GT engine but it doesnt fit because of hood clearance. It fits in the corolla and matrix. You can buy a special hood so it fits but then you also have to get some kind of fuel management because the one TRD has only works for the corolla and matrix not the celica. So basically after you buy the special hood, find some kind of solution to the fuel management your'e well over the price of a turbo and you have way less power, so basically its not worth it.

wow..6g for a s/c , thats nuts..i only paid 1800 for my blower and that motor is gonna make 450 hp at the wheels.

i heard the gt's internals are pretty weak or in general the 1zz engine.are there forged/harded internals
available for the 1zz so i could run higher boost?

*i got a chance to drive a gts today but didnt take it over 50 mph but i would of if i knew about the lift thing.

i'd say go the gt turbo route. i went with a gt because it was a great deal and had (almost) everything i wanted (no sunroof thumbsdown ):manual tranny, only 12,500 miles ('01), and all for only $14,000. the gt is a better daily driver IMO because, although it has 5 less lb/ft of torque, it kicks in about 1000 odd rpms sooner. as far as the interior, i could care less about leather seats (why pay more for leather when you might just end up replacing 'em anyway?). well, that's my two cents.

Honestly if its just your daily driver i wouldnt spend that much money and start modding the engine that heavily. It wont be much of a daily driver anymore. In your case i would get a gts and get i/e/h pfc. With those mods you should at least be very low 14s, if you're a very good driver or gut ur car that should get you into the 13s. And your car will still be a good daily driver.

whats pfc?

just curious, whats stock gts times?

-I like the celica a lot but cant stand having a stock/slow ride so w/e route is the easiest of getting speed, ill go with that w/o losing too much mpg. Thanks again for all the input.

The pfc is an apexi power fc. Its a complete standalone ecu unit. Replaces the stock ecu. You can get i/e/h and then tune the car with the pfc. A stock gts driven very well will run high 14s. Like i said with those mods you will run very very low 14s-high 13s. That way all you're really doing is just bolt ons so the car will still be a good daily driver. The only thing is making sure the pfc is tuned well. That would be the last thing to do, get i/e/h first and see if thats enough for you. If not then you get the pfc and tune the hell out of it.

Definitely take the GTS, its like a whole second faster on the 1/4 mile, it should run a high 14(14.7-14.9) stock. Spending the extra money on a GTS is better then using it on a s/c on a GT because you barely get more horsepower and drivability is difinely affected. And like you said yourself its better to start with a better platform.
If you're buying the car from the dealer, you should also get them to add the TRD LSD on the car, so its saves time and it well be on warranty. With all the current bolt-ons out there right now, which is still limited, you should be able to get around 190-200 whp, which should push this light car into the 13's.

Id go gts. Do the whole i/h/e pfc and then get a new clutch and flywheel. And of course some nicer rims.

Yes, buy the gt and put the extra $4000 into buying a turbo, at 6 psi you will have around 230whp and 251 pounds per foot of torque, which would rip a gts to peices. Plus the stock engine can easily take 6 psi and still be a daily driven car. Plus from what i have heard that the gt would do better in a auto-x whereas the gts does better on the strip due to the lift, but the gt with a turbo charger at 6 psi could easily still beat the gts on a strip, gts= very hard to add any type of f/i due to the cams/lift in the 6000 rpm area.

Hi,

I'm a newb myself with an auto gts. From reading your comments, it sounds like you're mostly interested in low 1/4 mile times.

As you've noticed, the gts makes most of its power in lift. With the auto, its impossible (or at least I haven't figured out how) to keep the engine in lift when it shifts.

With it dropping out of lift between gears, and not being able to launch it, I don't think a JATO pack strapped to the roof would get you 12's.

Those are some nice project cars on your cardomain page, btw.

Id have to say low 12 sec is basically impossible with an auto. Even with a manual its almost impossible as in hasn't been done yet. The reason is in order to make enough power to make a 12 sec pass you really need to turn up the boost significantly. In order to do that you need to fully build the engine with low comp pistons and the whole nine yards so your engine doesn't blow. On top of that the stock tranny is very fragile. Its been proven to go out around 250 lbs tq. So you will also need to find a solution to making the tranny stronger. Then you have the problem of traction. Simply an lsd and suspension work isnt enough. So you have a lot of obstacles to climb. Basically its gonna be a ton of money, and i mean a ton. Since no one else has done it, some of the solutions to those problems are unknown so ur guess is as good as mine. And your car will definately not be a daily driver anymore.

lets see toyota reliability and import look

-hearing the turbo spool up @ every light thumbsup
-all year driver thumbsup
-w/o breaking anything=maybe a low 13 sec/high 12's confused
-low end torque thumbsdown

vs

domestic muscle and un-reliablility

-15" rims with 13 inches of meat thumbsup
-cant drive in the winter thumbsdown
-315 hp stock + bolt-ons =low/mid 12's grin
-ls1's have a knack for slapping pistons/floating-bending valves thumbsdown
