Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Cleaned My AEM CAI Filter...

Was bored the other night, and decided to clean my air filter. It was long over due. The filter hasn't been cleaned since I first bought it almost a year ago.

I didn't have any "filter cleaning supplies" so I just took the filter off and soaked it in a bucket of water and detergent over night.

In the morning, I took a soft bristled tooth brush and cleaned whatever residue off that wasn't already floating in the water.

I didn't get the original color of the filter back, but I didn't expect to.


Question is, what's in those filter cleaning kits anyways, and what is the diameter of the filter for the 2nd gen AEM CAI (I bought it from this site)?

Should I only replace the filter when it contains rips or tears? Because mine was flawless except for the dirt on it.

yea buy a cleaning kit for it...i bought a new one just because i forgot to change it in like over 4months and it was dented and stuff...but you just gotta keep care of it and it will last a while

cleaning kit only cost 10bucks bro..not expensive at all..clean them the night you change ur oil..plus keep it over night and it'll dry out good..

u gotta use the oil you put back on it when you clean it, that makes dirt stick or else its not filtering completely
