i noticed in the manual it says to use 93 octane gas. But since gas is sooooo goddamn expensive, i cant afford it without using up half my paycheck just to go to work. Can i use the 89 octane for my celica? What will happen?

If you can't afford gas, then you probably shouldn't have a Celica.

If your engine isn't important to you, then use a lower octane. Your engine will knock.

You really should be using 91+ octane in a GTS, a few extra bucks at the pump is cheaper then replacing a damaged engine. And though you may not really feel the difference you are probably losing a few ponies for the lower grade gas.
I can't really say that those store octane boosters work but I guess they due because I've used them on a MR-2 turbo when I'm really boosting the car 18+psi and I've haven't had any problem. On the celica it probably won't help too much unless you do some tuning, as Import Tuner did get some gain from adding NOS octane booster to a Skyline without any tuning but the Skyline is supposed to run on high octane and not US low grade 91 octane, I guess its really just up to you.

if you take a look at the gas prices, the difference between 89-93 is only like 5 dollars per fill up, if that. If theres a .30 difference every 3 gallons is an extra $1 and on 15 gallons that on 5 bucks

yeah man... GTS engines need 91+ gas. If you use lower octane gas and over time your engine i'm surely give you problems. We all know gas is freaking expensive. Just deal with it.

Pay for the 93 Oct. you get what you pay for and plus with the toyota celica mileage you should only be filling up once a week or barely twice! thumbsup

shit man, around here 87 is like 1.89$ and 93 is 1.99, so on fill ups its like maybe 1.50$ more...worth it IMO if it makes your engine last thousands of miles longer

I have a GT but always use the 93 even tho I don't have to...not for any performance because I think that would be negligible, but hopefully for a long term benefit. Right now in NW Pa 87= $1.95 and 93= $2.09. Thats 14 cents a galoon so for the extra $1.50 its not gonna break me.

My friend's Si goes into limp mode (6000RPM redline, no VTEC) if there's 87 in the tank. I'm sure that the Celica would not respond well to low octane fuel, especially with the high compression and redline of the 2zz.

I was going the top at 100 octane for mainly two years. I love it after switching back to 94 or 93 (that stuff can't compare). The 100 is better and overkill, but I'm going to get it after my tank is almost empty. Ween my baby on the brink of un-leaded!!!! 93 or 91 is good enough for most or all stock GTS's.

we've mostly got 92 for some reason, except at shell, which is the only place around here that i can think of that has 93, and it's 2.35 and up for it.

It's about $2 here for 93 oct, but there is one place that sells 105 for about $4/gallon , and there's supposed to be a NASCAR shop around here that sell 115oct for like $5/gallon but I haven't found that place.

is it safe to put 115 in your car? Is it possible to put a too-high octane gas in your car?

As long as your ignition system is in good shape the higher octane shouldn't be a problem. The higher the octane the less tendancy it has to burn, thats why you can boost higher with higher octane gas and not have to worry about detonation.

91 Oct costs about $2.50/gallon on average. frown Damn California.

the 93 octane here is about 2.20. Ive benn only using 93 since i got my GTS. But sometimes, i filled up with the 91 and 89, but i made sure i added a bottle of octane booster. I was not gonna pay no 2.50 for 93 octane!...but that was durring those damn hurricanes. lol
