and now i have Escort 8500, which i think it is good.

but my friend's Valentine 1 is better, and i mean it.

Valentine 1 detects farther, and more accurate.

Regardless of what state I'm in, I ALWAYS stash mine in the event of being pulled over.

Cops usual will give you more of a hassle if they see one.

Radar Detectors are ONLY ILLEGAL in D.C. and Virginia. Or if you are a trucker or if you are in a military base.

Never had a cop hassle me for having one, due to the fact that they shouldn't give a fuck. They might as well ask you why you have a penis.

And, in Minnesota, radar detectors are not illegal, but don't hang them from your windshield, because hanging ANYTHING from your windshield in Minnesota is illegal.

Also, the Cobra radar detector that has a voice is very annoying. My friend had one and he eventually turned it on the silent setting.

Keep in mind that it will go off due to not only cops, but due to anyplace with remote door openers, or door openers that sense movement, like the ones at malls, grocery stores, etc.

Thats why they have a highway and city mode, city modes turns off falses such as siding doors, it only shows you when the big radar signitures come up

why wouldn't they unless they were built into your dash or somethin...

don't stash it while the cop is walking to your car. he/she might think you're reaching for a gun or hand grenade whatever and shoot you. stash it as soon as you see the lights coming up on you, way before you pull over.

BTW: All radar detectors suck when they use Vascar and time you. Some cops are just out to get you, I had to move out of town for them to leave me alone.

But I got em back, I wouldn't bore you with the details. thumbsup thumbsup

best brand you can get is valentine 1. not only its proven by so so guys on the internet, a friend of mine had it and hes really satisfied with it. goto valentineone.com i think its 300$ or 400. you get wut you pay for, saving 2 tickets is minimum 400 nowadays. spend it right, save it right. plus i always think about putting the detector somehow that is not visible. truth is, the receptor (aka the unit) has to be on the top of the windshield cz it looks for signals from front and rear. wut i was thinkin about is somehow opening the rearview mirror in the windshield and shove the unit's circuit board and all that shit inside, cut some holes for the reception or something, and have the detectors lights on the side of the windshield or somewhere near the radio or anywhere you like. that way it will look way cleaner and noone can tell.
btw, radar detectors are legal in CA, though a cop could give you a hard time if he sees it, its his choice and his mood. radar jammers are illegal, theyre the ones that it doesnt let cops gun the speed ur going.
radar detector, nomather wut brand doesnt guarantee you not getting any speeding ticket, the cop might just estimate how fast ur guys depending on his travel speed. thats wut they doing nowadays alot, cz the new law says that if the cops notice someone is going fast, then they have to right to give you a ticket.

as for the detector in the rearview mirror, if someone talented can do it, it would be awesome.

Like slidr said, they are only illegal in DC or Virginia. all other states, radar detectors are legal. Also, I believe they are outlawed in canada as well, if you cross the border form the states, they will confiscate it at the border.

If you want a stealth install, the bigger detector companies like Escort and Whistler make in-dash radar detectors, the sensors are placed behind the grille, and in the rear bumper, and the main module is mounted in or under the dash. but kind of pointless, since they are legal in most states anyways.

They work great, I haven't gotten a ticket since I bought one. True, if they are following you, and tag you with a laser, you're pretty much screwed, since there's no actual time to respond, but if a cop is following you, I'd hope you're driving the limit anyways. If they tag someone else with the laser, or are using it roadside, infrared reflection will give you advanced notice.

Also, in most states, they still use radar, because it's cheaper and just as accurate (in illinois, they use mostly KA band stealth radar) very few states use the older X and K band radar anymore. Laser, while good, doesn't hold up as well in court, because it's extremely sensitive and must be aimed directly at the target vehicle, unlike radar, which can be pointed down the road, and will catch anyone who's speeding down it.

Some radar detectors even have safety radar systems, they will pick up info on road construction or hazard warnings. very worthy investment. If you live in a place where they are illegal, get one with stealth capability, because in those states, they use a sort-of "Radar-detector-detector" that can tell if you have a detector in the car, If you live in such a place, and just have to get one, get one with VG2 stealth to avoid this detection (and remember, if you get tagged in an anti-detector state, SLOWLY decelerate, don't slow down too fast, otherwise it's a dead giveaway to the fuzz that you have a detector on board)

Of course, many states don't even bother with radar or laser anymore. they use small planes which track you from the air, and time you relative to the other drivers. it's like that out by my Bro in Wisconsin. In that scenario, no detector can help you. and state troopers still do it the old fashioned way (they pace you, and don't use radar most of the time) so you will either need a bearcat radio scanner/detector, or keep an eye out for the cops when driving.

Radar detectors are wonderful, but are only a single tool in your arsenal. A good pair of eyes and common sense will get you more in regards to avoiding tickets.

Your best bet is the V1 or escort. Escort makes most of the cop equipment and v1s detect really far so id save the money and buy one of those.

I have a radar detector, but don't use it.

I speed all of the time and havn't gotten a ticket yet. Just look for cops and don't be stupid about it.

Or, just look and buy a shitty detector if you want.

Even if you have the best radar, you should always be on the lookout for cops, because sometimes you will catch a smart one that will sit with his lights off, and only use the radar on cars traveling very fast. In other words, he won't use it on every other car that passes, therefore, your radar might not pick it up.

Hey, one way to hide your radar detector is to get it hard wired into the sunroof power. Mount the radar detector at the top of your windshield. If you get pulled over put down your sunvisor, and the cop won't be able to see it. Also, only buy one with a dimmer switch so that they can't see the light when it is dark outside.
