The whole hatch itself is moving up and down when I go over bumps, and god damn pebbles or dimples in the ground over a millimeter deep. I know that 17's and Sportline springs won't help, but it has always done this, even when the car was stock.

I have everything from the cockpit back gutted. No plastics, carpet, nothing.

So while driving, I just look back at the hatch to see what is making the rattle noise, and the whole hatch itself is moving up and down. And this is even with the extra weight of the TRD spoiler I put on. I also tightened down the spoiler itself, and the only noise that seems to come forth, is when the hatch moves up and down.

I did the TSB rattle noise solutions, and none of them even address the whole hatch itself moving up and down, just luggage clips, plastics, hatch glass, and the wire harness connector near the 3rd brake light, but I already had that wrapped in some adhesive spongy shit.

Is there any way that I could perhaps tighten the clamping mechanism, you know, the latch that holds the hatch closed? Or is there any other way that I could keep the whole friggin hatch from shaking like Michael J. Fox in an earthquake on a boat?

is it the whole hatch or is it just the part where it locks down?

I personally never had hatch rattles. One thing that I did find strange through about my hatch is that it actually popped open once when I went fast over a bump in the road while accelerating riding on my old HA's. It never happened again, but if someone else does know if there is a way to tighten the clamping mechanism like slidr said, I'm all ears.

Whole hatch. You can see it move up and down a little when it makes an annoying noise. I just look at the rubber lining on the inside of the car, and I can tell that it's moving up and down.

is it a rattle, or a squeak?

If it's a squeak, spray some lithium grease on the rubber and metal bushings on the hatch and rim support on the edges of the trunk on the car.

It's it's a rattle, check the spoiler, and while you're in there, check the washer arm motor mount, and adjust the buckle on the trunk to make it snug spineyes

I'll check the mounting, and I think I will just end up taking the hatch off, and putting it back on and making sure that everything is tight.

The hatch itself moves up and down.

I have all of the plastics removed, and while I drive, if I look back, I can see the hatch itself kinda bouncing up and down.

I did tighten down the spoiler, but you would think that the extra weight of the spoiler would help keep the hatch down more. spineyes
