I stopped into the local car audio joint to see the Honda Civic SIR they had on display from Alpine. Its a little far out for me, but its kinda cool. Its a single seater. They claim they have $350,000 (BS) in labour & material into it.

if labor is involved in the price, then yeah it's believeable. little too extreme for me.

350,000 is easy to get, if the labor is like 200 bucks an hour for work on that car, LOL

they moved the steering column and linkage to the center. it is a purpose-built car, but it is fully functional. they fabricated custom linkages for the steering, shifting, and pedals. not to mention all the monitors, fiber-glass interiors...& other stuff...

i dont know how much these all cost, but it seems a lot.

It looks like a blue terd. And the interior makes me want to gag. What a waste of money when there are starving children in the world.

but you have to admit they hatched a good idea and ran with it. its nice--for a demo car.

Just switching the car over from left hand drive to center is an achievement:

The custom seat:

More stuff:

Custom amp racks with a servo motor:

Putting two head units in each door:

I find it pretty easy to look past the color & graphics choices & see excellent workmanship & vision. thumbsup

^^ it is excellent worksmanship & vision...and while the finished product does indeed look 'stunning' it is also 'tasteles' in my opinion.

it is also easier to do custom work like that when your not actually going to drive the car.

i wonder how well the center steering would hold up IF the car were to be driven hard...personally i doubt it's made to withstand much of anything, and that includes the dash.

that said, yes--excellent worksmaship & vision. thats it.

You probably don't want to be flying around in rush hour traffic in a customized car like that. They are built to be trailer queens, which means they only drive from the trailer to the spot at the show & back on the trailer. Its an Alpine demo vehicle, used to promote their product & it travels from one audio shop to another.

which was my point.

its easier to customize a vehicle that you aren't really going to drive because you don't need to worry about it 'holding up' over time...not that this was easy, just easier than what it would be.

Didn't they do the exact same thing to a cut top Mini Cooper? Or was that a different company. Looks almost the exact same inside. It was featured in Super Street couple months back.

I seen that car in a magazine like year ago. I think in Super Street or something. It kinda looks like a space ship on the inside.

You do realize that they didn't actually spend $350K on it, right? That would be how much it would cost the average person if they wanted to replicate it. I'm sure there was very little money involoved, other than the 2 builders salaries and the cost of the car.
