Ive heard of one guy who has done it. Basically its not worth it. Its a whole lot of custom work and a ton of money. The guy had his own shop so was able to do all the labor himself and it still cost like 10k. Keep in mind just a stock 3sgte isnt gonna make the car that fast but its gonna add a ton of weight. The reason the 3sgte is so great is its ability to be heavily modded. Therefore not only would you need to swap it, but you would also need to mod it to get some good power. Plan to spend well over 10k.

No.
Make sure you know how to pass smog test without EGR. JDM engine doesn't come with EGR and EGR port. And yes, you can install it but you have to drill /machine to make it work, not worth it.
Also, you have couple choices of ECU. (JDM, USDM, and stand aloan) You can use JDM ECU as long as you are able to find higher octane gas (which is difficult in CA) If you use USDM ecu, you will need to disable the error code for the missing EGR. If you go stand aloan, you will be OK.
Swap isn't impossible but it's easy either. It takes time and money.
Are you familiar with the 3sgte engine? Which generation of 3S are you going to use for the swap?

do they make a front wheel drive transmission for the 3sgte? and me and my brother are looking to do a complicated swap this winter without having to spend an arm and a leg on the swap, we are planning on doin all the work ourselves so that should save a lot of money on install, plus we know people who can make custom mounts. but i live in columbus ohio so i dont have to worry about passing any smog test because we dont have any. but as of right now we're just trying to find out how complicated its going to be.

There is no stock FWD tranny for 3sgte. What most swapper do is using either toyota V6 tranny (camry, solara 1mzfe)or MR2T tranny. Some people use 5sfe tranny and it hold power too.
My $0.02 is do a lot of research before starting the project. The best source would be Celica.net It will not be as easy as 3sgte swap on 5th gen Celica but you will learn a lot there.
