I bought my Celica last november and I've had sooo many problems with it. But I got it from a private seller and I've been trying to contact him and he never answered until today when I blocked my number when calling him. I've had to get a new clutch and I'll have to be getting a new transmission and starter. But my question is, does the lemon law apply to cars that you buy from private sellers? I tried looking online but it only explains legal stuff... and I know the period of its 18 months... any help please, I'd appreciate it.

Dude, try this:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/lemon_law/

They have it broken down by State by Sate. Since you didn't get your car new, my guess is you won't be able to make a claim. But its still worth having a look . . .

Good luck.

One year! in Ohio.
In Mass, we only get 30 days. thumbsdown
Basically, if problems were disclosed to the buyer, the seller won't be liable for them. Good luck and I wish you got the tranny cost covered.

lemon law applies to factory defects that chronically happen even after it is "fixed" by the manufacturer.

double check your bill of sale though. if it says anywhere on there that the car is sold "as-is" you are pretty much out of luck on this one.

Well, I just got a job at a law firm not too long ago and I was talking to the lawyers there, they said I might have a case because he guaranteed the car was in perfect condition. And in the bill of sale or purchase agreement, it does not say sold as is. He said he has papers and everything to prove thats it in perfect condition but he never gave me them. When I asked him to give them to me he said he'd rather wait to see if I would actually sue him. He's a pain in the ass.
