if you get an Intake that does not have CARB number on it, its considered illegal. (check your county laws about that stuff) over here in Cali, no CARB=ticket.

a Turbo kit is illegal.

the 3sgte engine swap is illegal on the 2000+ celicas.

Emissions spineyes if you swap..Make sure you have sufficient emissions equipment from the donor car, or even upgraded if you have to. Plz note that the engine you put in may go under a visual inspection which means the serial number will be checked to see if it was stolen. When you swap an engine legally, make sure you register the car with the new serial number. When buying engines, make sure it has all the paperwork! There are too many theives out there that are stealing cars and stripping of its highly demanded engine.
The only way that an engine swap is legal is that it has to be the same year or newer engine spineyes and that is why... 3sgte engine swap is illegal on the 2000+ ..well least here in california we have Emission laws happywink

I'm pretty sure its still legal.

Aftermarket Turbos are, but thats because they're not tuned to factory standards.

Alot of cars are Turboed, like Chevy Cobalt and VW Beetle, even Acura NSX, which I think has a dual Turbo.

My tint (15% on rollups!), no front lisence plate (everybody does it), and driving with interior neons (footwell cathodes) is all ILLEGAL. But I haven't been rolled for any of it.

As far as illegal, try not to get side rollup windows tinted too dark. Make sure your Intake has a Carb sticker. Your exhuast can't be too loud (TSRM is the sound limit, no Kazuma!!! rofl). If your soundsystem is too loud you can get a DTP (disturbing the peace) slip.

yeah, it depends on your state...some states have a sniffer test and visual exam...some states like mine have just a sniffer test...and the lucky bastards in FL don;t have to worry about passing anything...they just strap on whatever the hell they want as long as it isn't hazardous to other drivers (like a mounted mini-gun) and drive

Turbo kits are "NOT" ILLEGAL!!!! I don't know where you came up with that. Unless your car has insane amounts of Horsepower added because of your Turbo, then it's ILLEGAL! Also, any type of Neon accessories that are "IN" or "OUTSIDE" your vehicle "WHILE" driving is ILLEGAL in "MOST" States! If your "NOT" moving and just "PARKED", your car can look like a christmas tree. As far as exhausts and Intakes go, some Intakes are "NOT" 50 state legal, but most are! Anytime your Catalytic Converter is taken off your exhaust, you are messing with emmissions, which is grounds for a ticket and "IS" ILLEGAL in most States. You can get a ticket from the loudness of your exhaust, depending on what State you live in and also it varies from City to City. I hope this helps, I know a lot about this stuff, I've called, done research on and talked to many officers regarding these issues. Depending on what you add or take off your car, in most cases if you think it's illegal, IT IS!

...in california if you get a Turbo kit with a carb number and an eap number you can legally have it on your car, same with all other mods as long as you are not throwing out too much smog or setting off the check engine light, but cars these days will not throw out a lot of smog so almost any mod can be done legal as long as the part is considered a replacement part, like the aem underdrive pullies or it is carb approved, swaping engines is completley illegal in califronia unless it is the same engine that comes with your car, or if it is offered for you car from the manufacture. ie you bought a car with a 327 but for $1000 mroe you could have gotten a 350, you are allowed to swap with a new 350 that was offered witht he car. You cannot swap engines unless your car is 25 years or older then you do not have to worry about your car being smoged and all mods are legal with or without a carb and eap number. I have been in autoshop for 3 years now, i live in california. I do know what i am talking about. hehe.

i bought my AEM CAI along time ago. I never came with a CARB sticker. If it was in there I would have stuck it on the Intake. What should I do. How would i be able to get one? I know its AEM, you could tell by the piping and everthing. Plus i got it back in 2001 when not many celica Intakes were out except for AEM or Injen.

yeah for the Turbo on a Celica, just do the normal cure-all: put a CARB sticker on it haha.

or do an engine build, boost up to 20 psi at around 400 whp, and run. ba-bye!

It's good to have those automatic garage door openers so when you get to your house you can pull in quickly and shut the door behind you, say if they are like 30 seconds behind you in your area.

tint under state requirements
no cats
anything not approved (DOT, CARB, blah blah blah)
er i can't think of anything else

a Turbo is legal and an engine swap is as long as it's ok with US emissions
