I have 86,000 miles on my 2000 gts and just recently noticed that i have a valve tap. The noise gets extremelly anoying when ur standing outside of the car. Its not all that loud but it gets on my nerves. How much do you think it would cost me to fix this problem?

pour some oil detergent into your next change.

Will help reduce the noise for only $4

valve adjustment is part of the scheduled maintenance...contact your dealer...they can adjust the valves (they float a little after tons of mileage) and eliminate the sound...or you can just get a valve job and have your valves, and valve springs, etc...replaced...and it will purr like new

Get your engine flushed out from a dealer or mechanic, before you even attempt to get your valves adjusted. It is a Bilstein Engine flush and most Toyota dealers have this system. There was a article in Car and Driver Magazine a couple of years ago, regarding Toyota and Lexus motors being built so compact that they build up sludge in the motor making the valves, springs, ect to become sticky, which causes valve ticking. The sludge build up is much higher and builds up quicker in Toyota/Lexus motors then any other manufactures. I had the same chater and after talked to the service Mgr at Toyota, he stated that the GTS valves are self adjustable and to just get my engine flushed. Toyota wanted $120.00 to flush my engine, which I thought was a little to much, so I took the Bilstein brochure that Toyota gave me, went on there website and they guided me to the nearest shop that had the flush system. It was a older man that owned a small shop that specialized in Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, and Lexus. The price was $89.00 and I got it done, now the valve chater is gone.
You know when you change your oil and then check the dip stick, but the oil is still dirty? Well after the flush you can't even see the oil on the dip stick, because it's so clean. He recomended to flush it once every 2 or 2 1/2 years.

Bilstein Engine Flush Dissolves Sludge and Improves Performance

Heated Bilstein R-2000 Engine Flush solution is pumped through the oil filter port at 42 PSI.
R-2000 Engine Flush solution flows through the engine's lubrication system dissolving sludge and varnish.
R-2000 Engine Flush solution back flushes the oil pump pickup screen. Dissolved sludge, varnish and debris flow to the oil pan where it is vacuum extracted to the BILSTEIN R-2000 Engine Flush Machine. Particulates over 3 microns are removed through three stages of ultra-fine filtration.

Oil Changes Are Not Enough
While oil filters remove particulate over 25 microns, sludge, tar, varnish and wear metals less than 25 microns continue to circulate within the engine and accumulate in the passageways, oil pump and oil pan. These contaminates cause engine wear, higher operating temperatures, and reduced lubrication.

Past Procedures Compound the Problem
Simply pouring chemical flush Additives into the crankcase is ineffective. Dissolved sludge, particulate and accumulated debris continue to circulate causing significant engine wear.

Bilstein R-2000- Engine Flush System
This environmentally safe system thoroughly cleans your engine by using patented adaptors and specially formulated solutions to dissolve accumulations of sludge, tar, varnish and wear metals.

The process is performed with the engine off. Using pulsating pressures, the Bilstein R-2000 circulates a heated petroleum distillate solution through the oil pump passage ways and reservoir to dissolve sludge.

A perfectly clean engine means better Performance, superior fuel economy and longer engine life.

Restore Engine Efficiency with Total Safety
The Bilstein R-2000 Engine Flush System will not harm your engine, ring seating, valve guides or seals. All residual oil and cleaning solutions are evacuated leaving a light mineral oil on critical wear surfaces.

Periodic Engine Cleaning Extends Engine Life
Tests have shown that periodic sludge removal restores operational efficiencies and reduces harmful exhaust emissions. By reducing wear metals and corrosive contaminates a longer engine life can be expected.

Bilstein - Quality and Reliability
Over the decades, Bilstein has established a solid reputation for quality and reliability. Bilstein products are marketed worldwide only after extensive research and testing.

Phone: 818-676-1600
Toll Free: 800-655-0090

Give them a call and they will find a shop in your state/city you live in.

Motorlife is the company in partnership with Bilstein.

If you get this done, make sur you buy your own oil and filter.
The GT will need a little more then 4 quarts due to this system removing every drop of oil in the motor and the GTS will need all 5 quarts. Remember only this time for the flush and not every oil change of course.

It's amazing, the oil is so clean on the dip stick when you change your oil, you would think there is no oil in the motor, which means your motor is very clean and also the most important part your oil pan is free of metal shreddings and sludge. The white filter that he attached to the side of the machine to catch everything was white before and after he was done, it was black and dripping with sludge. thumbsup
