Well, with that particular knob on in that picture, it kinda negates the purpose of a shortshifter kit.

Cutting your shift rod is ghetto and it won't shorten your shifts at all. I haven't seen any evidence for a short shifter kit affecting your transmission. The major kits come with upgraded bushings and everything.

If you're THAT worried, buy the TRD Quickshifter, then it's covered by warranty.

Booyah!

put on a short shifter, if it comes any problems at all it going to take so long time that you have sold the car and if you worried he dont like the short shifter shift it back to stock before the buyer sees it. np

It changes how far the physical shift assembly moves, and makes it feel stiffer and less sloppy.

And you can't just cut it. You would have to cut out a piece of it in the middle and then weld it back together, because the threading for the shift knob is on the top of the lever.

Just spend $120 buy the freaking thing.

you can chop it off, you really don't need the top thread part. there is also universal shift knobs...but like i said, i wouldn't do it...
