dual exhaust on an I4 engine is pretty pointless.

All that sound, and you are losing HP.

I see we have some educated people joining the discussion here aswell.

Fake? Exactly WHAT part of that exhaust is fake?

LOOSING HP? It lost a bit of low range, but felt a lot more alive from about 3000rpm's and upwards. And I've just changed back to the stock system due to a test I need to go through with the car (which includes measuring exhaust dB's). And now, with the stock system back on, it's back to having a bit more low end, but feeling much more lazy up in the high range. But I guess that's why people buy bigger high flowing exhausts -- to loose hp. Clever.

Jupp. My car, my money, my shit smile A lot of people are going to hate the car when it's done, 'cause I'm going in a very different direction than the mainstream 500 layers of clear laquer on the brightest f'ing color with f&f vinyl dildo graphics and so much chrome you could burn your eyes looking at it.

But everyone's welcome to their opinion. If you don't like it: Fine. If you like it: better! ;-)

easy killer, if you dont like getting flamed dont post. Anyway, the term fake is because it is not a true dual exhaust. One manifold/header, one pipe, one catylic, one muffler as opposed to two headers, pipes and mufflers. The loss of power is because of backpressure, and putting dual on an I4 is too much relief of backpressure. Its a fine line when it comes to backpressure, and the duals will generally cross that line. Anyway, it still looks nice and i bet it sounds nice, and it looks like a quality custom. just not my bag of beans.

In that case, a LOT of cars with stock dual exhausts are "fake". Anyways, that really doesn't matter. And I've got nothing against opinions about the system. And other people shouldn't have something against getting comments back either wink

Backpressure is an issue. And this exhaust has been made by a shop who only deals in exhausts, and makes custom exhaust systems. They've got xx years of experience in making them, and I trust them. The system I have on my car now is made from after the cathalytic converter, and only has a quarter of an inch or half an inch (think we settled on a quarter of an inch) bigger pipes than stock. And we didn't go any bigger than that due to the (small) size of the engine. You may also notice the 2 "cans" (middle of the car, and by the rear axle) that also provide pressure.

I had a system a while back on a 2.0L 16v 140hp engine, that replaced the cat and everything, and expanded the size of the pipes with 1 and a quarter of an inch. That system made the car loose power 'cause there was not enough pressure.

The system on my celica is good. It might look big from the pictures, but it's not some over-the-top home-made shit made by some dumb ass (me?) in his garage wink

explaine the trd sport exhaust... the one that even for a brief seconds gives more power then any other exhaust ... whats that? a stragit pipe so there goes you idea of back pressure being an issue here

and if you look he still has a muffler in there right in front of the rear suspesion so there ya go back pressure

so unless you know what your talking about don't comment

and btw it looks nice just not my cup of tea

p.s. my bike has duel exhaust and its a smaller engine still only a 600 and its a true duel exhaust

backpressure is one of the most misunderstood concepts ever

some back pressure reading material

http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/sue462/backpressuretorquemyth.htm

http://sandlizrd.baja.com/exhaust.htm

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm

quote from nsxprime
Again, you may hear a few SPMT's tell you that "Borla mufflers make horsepower!" Or "An engine needs some backpressure to run properly!" Nonsense. A muffler can no more "make" horsepower than Wile E. Coyote can catch roadrunners. Any technician with any dyno experience will tell you that the best mufflers are no mufflers at all!

he is not going to lose any noticeable amount of horse power with that setup, its a single pipe the pressure remains the same, its just split up and the end. It looks sweet man dont worry bout what the fuck the haters say

Your exhaust setup looks great those must sound mean. The bends are awesome just by looking at the picture, best part is the alignment, and they flush real well with your bumper. Bumper looks great too. I have 3 exhaust setups and one of them is almost setup the same way like yours. The few that I own are setup this way 3'' dual canister straight, 3'' dual resonated tip muffled, and TRD 3'' flared tip that is split down the center. The straight canisters give a deep tone. The resonated are quiet since they are muffled and only sound when you high rev. The flare tip is sharp and crisp right when you turn on the car.
I had my shop spray the TRD with a thick flat black high temp paint all around the pipes. Just incase the pipes heat up so they don't discolor or rust.

Anyways I can bet yours sounds crisp and not annoying like some exhaust. Nonetheless your tips flare out real well. Now time to put on some carbon buildup in those badboys. thumbsup

It's deep, loud, and can backfire like a champion smile I love it. I really wish I could have some propper cans back there, instead of just the exhaust tips - but I couldn't find any cans short enough to fit. Thinking about buying 2 universal cans, cutting them in half and making them shorter to fit.

You can go to:

http://www.svendsen-eksos.no/album.asp

..and click on a name to get up some shots of various cars they have done. A lot of good work there. The "toyota carina e" on the TOYOTA page is one of my old cars. As long as they're making exhausts, I'm not buying my exhausts from anywhere else.

Sorry. I've removed the twin exhaust and put back the oem one right now. Won't have the twin exhaust back on before april or something like that. And then I'll have a full body kit +++ installed aswell. Will take some pictures then.

like it was said before, backpresure, he has a I4 and dual exhaust are made for V6 because there are 2 headers 2 pipes and all that shit, if you let 2 much air out of the engine then you lose power not gain, read the other post. i looks nice, and im sure he is the only one around here with that setup, so props to that thumbsup hope to see it in april thumbsup

and like i said before thats all bs and its not a true duel it goes out throw a header then cat then resonater then a muffler and a half of pipeing then bam done a trd sport exhaust would have even less "back pressure" cause it goes right from the cat no resonater no muffler so there for that exahust must not preform either ...but wait isn't it the highest gaining exhasut for the celica

back pressure = myth
duel a foot after the muffler = no preformance loss other then low end torgue which happens with every exhaust and maybe weight

go read those damn links i provided they go through it all

Sorry, no. A friend of mine is thinking about buying a dv cam and some editing equipment for his PC. And I, ofcourse, am telling him what a FABULOUS idea that is smile Hope to borrow it and make something this coming summer. Anyhow -- I can always sort out a video cam, and hook it up to my soundcard and make a nice mp3 file. But that'll have to wait untill I put the exhaust back on again.

Cars in norway have to be checked every 2nd year, to make sure they're safe and road legal. And that exhaust is NOT legal at all smile And my car has to be approved before the end of next month. So I'm running the stock exhaust right now.
