Ive heard ALOT of members talking about their car beeping when its in reverse...kinda like a garbage truck backing up. I own a 2002..and it doesnt do that...and i havent seen any celicas that do that..whats up?

the 2003+ gts has it to prevent you from putting the car into reverse instead of 1st. It's dumb and I need to make it stop.

Yeah, mine beeps...and everybody who rides in the passenger seat laughs at it. rofl Oh well...I just tell them it's because it's a 6 speed, and it's to let you know when you're in reverse, instead of 1st gear (which is right beside it).

BTW...it only beeps from the inside...it's not like a dump truck. spineyes

I just picked up my '02 and was all apprehensive after hearing about the dreaded beep-age. It's actually pretty quiet and not intolerable, and I've jammed it up into reverse several times instead of first already, so I can understand it's utility! It's impossible to hear if the tunes are cranking at any decent volume...

don't EVER undo that.

I backed the car into a garage, and someone went to move it, thought it was in first gear, and backed the thing into a shelf, causing me to buy a new bumper thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown

whats really annoying is the beeping sound that repetitively goes on when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. rolleyes

This is to Virgilson and to the guy who started this thread:

You have GT's.

The beeping only happens with GTS's, due to the fact that reverse is right next to first.

20 posts in, and I'm the only one who noticed? wink

the beeping isn't annoying, and i dont think i've ever made the mistake of shifting to reverse instead of first before it takes a little more muscle so push into reverse so you know when u've gone too far wave

Yeah mines beeps too and mines is a 2000. This girl I always kick it with she makes fun of it all the time. But i just ignore it because im used to it already. But the people who sit in my car and hear that lol, they always ask me "wtf is that noise, it sounds like a big truck," Im like yeah yeah i know but you cant hear it outside of the car and it does that cause its a 6-spd and the reverse is to the left. BTW people always trip out about where the reverse is located on the 6-spds. there always like "wha eek confused" I always tell them, it's because my car is unique and cool like that thumbsup
