Celica Forums General Discussion General Stud broke off...ok to drive for a day yet?

When i got my new springs put on, the back two weren't in the little dips once they were on. So my friends dad told me to just drive it for a little bit, and then jack it up and twist them around. Well it deffintly wasn't that easy. First, a bunch of my studs are cross threaded, and one of them broke off when i was taking the nuts off. And then I tried to twist the spring around and it defintily wouldn't twist.

I was going to get all new studs and alignment on thursday anyway. Think its ok to drive with 1 less stud on the back right wheel?

Yeah if drive carefuly, But you have more studs on there that are cross threaded and You've tried muscling them off already You do run the risk of them shearing off as well just by driving it. Get it fixed asap and dont take any hi speed turns.

Hey, I had the same problem with my springs, and you were supposed to twist them when the whole strut was off your car.

All you do is lay the strut assembly on the ground (with the spring on of course) put your foot on the strut, and twist the spring.

Also helps to pry the little rubber boot with a screw driver.


But as for the studs, you are talking about one of the three that attaches the strut to the frame of the car, right?

If so, then you should be fine driving. Just get it fixed whenever you can.

Errk dude! be bloody careful you don't want your celica turning into a plough!! (sorry should that be plow in the usa? lol)

dont ump on the freeway/autobahn like that one wrong move and youll have the lowest celica on the boards. also i think a few machine shops can fix the threading issue. but just be careful driving the way you are is pretty dangerous.

Well, got all the work done.

I guess the lugs I had were just bearly to small for my studs on my car (I didn't know this was an issue) So I had to get all new lugs, all new studs, and a key for the lugs, and then an alignment, and then pay for the labor.



$235 for all that done. Sure cost a lot to get the studs put in...oh well...back on the road!

Thats a little pricey for that man the labor is prolly what costed the most. Glad to hear Yer all fixed up though

yeah. labor was $105 to put the studs in, and $55 for the alignment.


Oh well...car handles like a dream now...its so fun to do like 75-80 on on/off ramps.
