Well, I don't have wheel well plastics anymore. I haven't for a while actually. So far nothings happened, but recently my belts have started making a lot of noise. So yeah, it's probably the belt tensioner. But I was wondering that since those belts are exposed down there, could water be getting up into them and damaging them? Would like to hear what you guys have to say about this.

Thats a possibility, but doubtful.

I recently had a squeaky belt, I took it to Toyota, because I was pretty sure it was the belt tensioner too. They found the gasket in my water pump assembly was leaking, so they replaced it.

There could be soo many different things causing the problem. The first thing I would try, honestly, is getting that gator grip belt.

most likely you belt tensioner...had mine replaced twice by toyota...
