Autometer Oil Pressure Sending Unit

I was trying to install the sending unit for my Autometer oil pressure gauge, and the damn thing never wanted to bite (got dark so had to quit). The stock unit looks like it's a little tapered on the end but the new one's not. Didn't want to strip my threads. Anyone done this? Is there a trick to it?

I can try and make some (have to get my cam back). I ordered them from egauges.com. Here's the links:
