I just noticed today that my footwell neons make a whistling noise. I turned my stereo down for the first time and could notice it. I have one in each footwell...is this normal or are they telling me that there's a problem? confused

Also does anyone have a good mounting spot for the passenger footwell? I have it on the bottom surface of the dash right now...but i don't really like that because it's kinda visable. It doesn't seem to me that there is a good place to stick 'em. Anyone have pics of theirs?

it's not from my Intake...lol i love that noise...but no when i just have the neons on i hear a kinda high-pitched whistle that is pretty faint but bothersome now that i know it does this. When i'm driving i can't hear it so it's not a big deal unless it means i have a problem...I just have them plugged into my 12v cig lighter for now...

cold cathode florescent lighting. And yes, your neons should emit a high pitched noise such as a tv because of the frequency the starters operate at. This noise is usually picked up by the stereo and amplified

Whistling? That sucks. i have some neons comming in the mail and i dont want then to whistle or buzz. I bought LED neons though so that should make a difference right? they draw less current.

Are you joking? CCFLs don't whistle. They're silent. Only neons "hum."

Ok here is the answer to your question...

The lights do not whistle but the lil transformer does. Its normal and not a bad thing. Now if it starts to buzz and get real loud, then you should be worried.. Just like if you go and stand next to one of the big ones on the street, its doing a lot bigger of a job therefor it hums, your little one included with your lights has a high pitched whine sorta.. and yes its normal, mine does it to and im used to it, besides I always have music on... rice
