Auto Meter Tachometer Install

(Before performing installation, disconnect positive battery cable)Materials Needed:1.Black Electrical Tape2.Fuse Holder 30 Amp (*caution).(*As a safety precaution the RED wire of this product should be fused before connecting it to the positive (+) side of the 12V DC battery. We recommend using a 4 Amp, 3AG fast-acting type cartridge fuse (little fuse #312 004 or an equivalent) inline with the RED wire of our product.)3.Soldering Iron 4.Rosin Core Iron.Procedures:(Remember to remove positive battery cable)Step #1: Remove Cluster FinishRemove Cluster Finish Panel by unscrewing two screws.Step #2:Removing Combination MeterUnscrew the three screws that hold the Combination MeterCarefully,unplug Blue and White Plug connected in back of combination Meter. Set aside in a secure spotStep #3:Removing Upper and Lower Column CoverUnscrew screw, left side of steering wheel, right side of steering wheel, and bottom of of steering wheel. Step #4:Mounting TachFind a place to mount tach. I decided to mount mine in the center cluster by drilling two holes. I was going to mount my tach on the left corner of the Pillar Garnish but I decided not to because I'm planning on adding more gauges on this side. Once you found a spot, mount tach.Step #5:Wiring TachometerGreen[/color]Run Green Tachometer cable to Blue plug that was plugged into Combination Meter.In the Blue plug with all the wires, find the White/Brown Cable. This cable is the Tach Terminal. Carefully with a razor, peel off about 1/2" of the White/Brown cable avoiding cutting the wires from the inside. You can cut and peel ends of cable (White/Brown) at your own risk.Carefully, solder Green wire cable with White/Brown cable. Insulate with Black electrical TapeRedBefore you start running the Red Cable, make sure you solder the 30 Amp Fuse Holder (see*caution) to red wire. See picture Run Red Tach cable to bottom of steering wheel. Find the White Cable (12V Ignition Switch)located in the ingition cylinder.See arrow.
Carefully, once again peel the White cable with a razor, also about 1/2", avoiding cutting the wires.
Solder White and Red wires together. Insulate with Electrical Tape
Run White Tach cable to Upper Console Panel.
Find Red Cigarette Lighter Cable (12V Dash Lighting).
Peel Red Cable with razor, also about 1/2" avoiding cutting wires.
Solder White and Red cable. Insulate with electrical tape.
Run Black Tachometer cable to this area. This will be our ground area. You will need a shop light down there. Got to the Home page of EverythinCELICA.com. Go under Tech Info. Then scroll down to Electrical. Go to Grounding Locations - Inside. See Diagram. Look at IE. This is were I found out a good source of ground.
Unscrew upper screw (Ground). Looks like a purple cable that is screwed in this area. Screw back in Purple and Black tachometer cable.
Step #6:Clipping Loop cable on Tachometer.
Carefully, clip blue loop cable in back of tach (Do not push wires into case). Then insulate the blue loop that you just clipped with electrical tape.
Connect Shift-Lite Connector.
Step #7:Making Sure Everything is Right.
Go over procedures one more time. Make sure cable that you insulated with electrical tape are taped and secured.
Put everything back together. Connect positive battery cable back and burn test the baby!!!.
If procedures where followed, tach should be up and running (Hopefully I explained my self clearly). It will take you about 2 to 4 hours. It all depend how good you know your car. Have Fun!!!
