or you have a GT... rofl

but seriously. how is it NOT working? is it that you don't feel it kick hard like it used to? if that is the case then there are several reasons why that is. some are

-it could be that you are just used to it (i am guilty of that)

-the car is cold

-you've added mods that smoothed out the power band

please be more specific. is the case where no lift engagement is happening or there is less lift "feel" to it?

Check your oil levels. VVTL-I is activated with oil pressure. if you dont have enough oil/pressure wont engage.

you sure the engine was warm?

in neutral your motor is limited to 7100 rpms. when the motor is cold it has this same limit at 7100 rpms.

If this happened when you tried to launch the car you can hit that same 7100 rpms limiter. when the wheels spin too much the engine thinks it's free reving and instates the neutral rev limiter.

vacuum problem sounds like maybe you installed an Intake and didnt connect one of the hoses correctly?

Agreed. Scared the shit out of me one night when I went to hit lift and I couldn't go past like 6.5k RPM.

Then I looked at the temperature needle.

If your lift bolts were broken, your powerband wouldn't end at 7k.

You either:

A: Have a GT that is badged as a GTS. Take a picture of the engine bay to be sure.

B: Your car isn't "warm." Wait until the car is fully warm to use lift.

first time I tried my drs with the 15" rims I hit the limiter launching at the track lol

worried me cause I was like WTF the cars been fine. turns out I dindt do a really good burnout and had too much pressure in the tires. add that to the smaller diameter and the ecu thought it was free reving lol so could be that too.

basically WE NEED MORE SPECIFIC INFO. rofl

taking a picture of the engine bay wont prove anything i have a auto GT and it fills exactly the same as my friends GTS when he hits lift. when I bought the car they said it was a GT advanced package but the engine looks like a GT confused the only notice able difference in the 2 engines is the Intake manifold spineyes confused eek

Like Lucky asked you in the post above, what size rims are you using?

I don't think it would make a difference since I think you aren't trying to launch in lift, but for the sake of the matter, more info is needed.

If your car is warm, then your lift bolts are broken.

How would a picture and a feeling have anything to do with one another?

First off, there is no such thing as a GT advanced package, and you are right, the Intake manifold is different, but there are a few more differences.

broken bolts wont limit you to 7K

were you trying to launch the car?????????

perhaps if I make it bold you will respond.

also got a digital camcorder? take a quick vid. and did this happen only once or is it a recurring problem?

Yeah, I'm guessing that he hit 8k, but said 7k anyways.

Some newb said he accidentally downshifted and hit 11k. I asked him if he had a special motorcycle tach that read that high.

Oh, on another note, there isn't an electrical VVTL-i actuator, is there? Just a variable valve timing one, right?

Could it be a problem with his ECU?

Bolts aren't the problem if you bounce at 7000RPM. Like Lucky and I said before, you should be able to rev to at least redline with broken bolts.

For some reason the soft limiter is kicking in at 7000rpm which it does in neutral and when the engine is cold. Lift comes in at 6200rpm so do you feel it starting at all?

Your only solution is to take it to Toyota, get them to plug it in and they'll tell you exactly what the problem is. If its not under warranty still then you better get your wallet out. In the meantime i wouldn't go bouncing off any limiters because your're going to fuck your gearbox.

Maybe... but yes, there is a solenoid that flows oil to the lift mechanism, it's called the oil control valve (or OCV) if that is fritzing out, that would explain the loss of lift, but not the 7K rev limit (unless the ECU is sensing the lack of oil pressure, and limiting the revs)

Tachs have a margin of error of about +-200 RPMs when you get into that range, so that's probably why.

some facts for ya to help elimante some of this

you can unplug the actuator and have no lift but still rev to 8300 rpms.

broken lift bolts even ones boken so bad that you have 0 lift will still let the car rev to 8300 rpms

you could try swapin ecus. I've never heard of anyone having that problem like you described so cant really help ya.

good luck thumbsup

u saying ur not stupid, but you saying ur not stepping on the gas hard? wut does that mean lol. when you pass over 6000rpm, lift will kick in, wut does that have to do with how hard you stepping on the pedal?
