So I am trying to install my new Alpine head unit in my celica. I bought the vehicle from a used car dealer so I don't know exactly what options are in it. From what I can tell, the car has the 6 speaker stereo with the factory AM/FM/Tape/CD player. I got a wiring harness for the 2000 GT with 6 speakers and it does not fit into the wiring harness. This leads me to believe that I may have the factory installed amplifier which would be a possible option right? My wiring harness connector looks more like the photo's of the GTS connector in that there is only one connector, but I have a GT.

So I could use any help on this. If I had the amp, where would it be? I see a black box with a heat sink on it and two sets of wires going into it. Either way do I need to get another wiring harness? HELP!

goto glove box, undo the two 10mm bolts on bottom, then open it and unscrew the 4 phillips at top. remove glovebox after unlugging the harness for the glovebox light. then look to the right, theres a little black box about 4" square, it should have like 2 harness coming out of it,unplug them and fit your new harness, usually you have to trim a nub off the side to get it fit right. Hope this helps, i just avoided the factory amp and hardwired...but thats me

I want to avoid the factory amp. My head unit will have more than enough power for the speakers. To avoid the amp do I just unplug the two connections to the amp and splice into the wires to their corresponding wires on the deck?

Yah, just splice into the speaker wires on the opposite side of the amp & unplug the amp.

Thanks for the welcome to the site. When you say splice into the speakers on the other side of the amp, do you mean the wires that come out of the amplifier and are then distributed to the stereo. Is there a wiring diagram for this or do I just match colors? The reason I ask, is because the amp has 2 connectors to it. One of them looks like the connector that was attached to my old head unit so I am assuming the other one is where everything is distributed from.
