some know, some don't about the cat-cams camshaft's for the 1zz engine...they are 256/220 degrees on the Intake camshaft, and 245/213 degrees on the exhaust side with 10.30mm of lift, and 9.50 mm of lift respectively. I've been really really looking to put these into my engine, but was afraid that the vvti function would fuck them (and my motor) all to hell. so I treid talking to the crew at MWR and they didn;t think that the cams even existed..hehehe rofl, and then I turned to my friends at Titan motorsports ( used to live in FL)

I asked them what their experience was with the 1998 supras with the VVTI and the aftermarket cams that HKS and JUN made for the supra Turbos. I asked if they had run into any trouble with the stock ecu and the cams due to the vvti, or did they have to install an aftermarket standalone ecu to get the motor to work properly. They said that they haven't had any trouble with the cams, and the stock VVTI ecu!!!!! they also said that they have had gains of 20 - 40 whp eek eek eek grin grinon stock to single Turbo supras...so yeah...if this is true, then I may be finishing my all motor project by next spring...yeah baby!!!!...plus with the duration I should get most of that power down low grin grin goodjob goodjob

Sultan: yes, I know...hehehehehehehehe

Ikin: The following is a list of Intake cam durations and their powerband:

Intake cam duration / (degrees) (powerband)

190 - 205 / idle - 3500 rpm
206 - 220 / 1,500 - 4,500rpm
221 - 230 / 2000 - 5500rpm
231 - 234 / 2500 - 6000rpm
234 - 238 / 3000 - 6500rpm
239 - 244 / 3500 - 7000rpm
245 - 256 / 4000 - 7000rpm

so you see ikin, with these cams, our cars will really come alive in the mid rpm range to redline (I got this info from crane cams, and before I thought that the rpm range would be a little lower, but oh well)...it should also provide a little better torque (not a ton, but definitely better)...

JUST SHIT ON A STICK!!!!!!!!! I just checked my email, and I got another email from one of the guys at titan motorsports in FL...he said that he forgot to tell me that on the VVTi engine you can only install the Intake camshaft as the VVTI affects the exhaust cam...wish they would have told me that before I got all excited

ikin, it won't change your emissions. it will just basically tune your VVTI and your engine's air/fuel ratio. Not being OBD-II means that you can't plug an obd-II diagnostic tool up to your car and get a check engine code. You should pass the emissions test as long as your engine is running ok, and your cat is good. I've heard from a lot of dealers that they replace a lot of catalytic converters on the celica for some reason, tho so watch out for that

Celica burns through catalytic converters because it's a Beast! angry

The catalytic converter is like a leash or a restraining bolt that attempts to contain the beast, the Celica's natural tendency is to fight this restraint by breathing fire and releasing Borg Celica nano probes to burn and eat away at the catalytic converter. rofl spineyes

All kidding aside; maybe Celica's exhaust gas temp is higher than most other cars?
