Hey all i just bought a used 2000 Silver 5spd Celica GT and i was wondering if it would be worth the money and all the time to try and mod my car to be a high end race car. I love to go down to the local track and drive my freinds supra but i really want to know if my celica could come even close to being a great racing car. No matter what i dont wanna sell my celica becuase i love the style and drive of it sooo much.
I would love to hear any suggestions on first mods to put onto my celica to bring it to the next level.
I already have exhaust and redid the whole audio system.
thanks for all your help,
Craig

If push comes to shove i might even have end up selling my celica, any suggestions on what car to get. i got about 16000 to spend if i wanna get a new car and please nothing older then a 2000.
Thanks

It's possible. Anything is possible. It's just going to be expensive. What is your goal for track times? Sub-15? Sub-14?

You can probably run under 15 seconds with Intake, exhaust, header, and Power FC (ECU). To run under 14 seconds in a GT, you'll need to go forced induction. Good news is that the GT is easier to Turbo than the GTS, and SF actually makes a nice kit for it. thumbsup

Oh yeah... and reduce the weight as much as possible before hitting the track. If you have subs in back, pull them out. Ditch the spare tire. Go on 1/4 or 1/8 tank of gas. Remove the backseats if you're willing to go that far.

Anything is possible... but it takes time, money, and effort. thumbsup

Screw drag racing. If you want to compete with decent cars and have much more yield in your race results, look into road racing and auto cross.

Do a little research for auto cross clubs in your area. Don't be afraid to attend a few of the events. It doesn't matter if your car is stock or not. They do have stock classes you can compete in. You do not have to have a single modification on your car to auto cross. A common myth is that people think they need mods to auto cross so they blindly mod their car and sometimes it can hurt your car's Performance. Once you know your car's limits, you can start modifying your car's suspension to increase the limits.
Good luck

^^^ very true, Steven thumbsup

IMO, autox is FAR more fun too. Only reason I care about drag racing is that it's the only way to show crappy american cars on the street how much they suck. spineyes

dont worry about having a GT celica...i have one too and so far its getting to that forced induction stage sometime in the future. but if youd like you can swap your GT engine for the GTS motor and bust in the 6 speed tranny for more driving pleasure. looks like your in the same boat as me...no way in hell im selling my celica gonna make it a respectable car...hahaha

^^^^^^Yeah bro, I use MY GT for track days at Road Atlanta (Road RAcing), and I have 11:1 internals, stronger valve, and valve springs, and I may be doing a cam job soon...THE GT is awesome FUN and they OWN on autocross courses...If you want to go really fast and have 16,000 to spend, then get your suspension done first, then go with lower compression internals (monkeywrenchracing.com)...new cams from catcams (SUPER AGRESSIVE,...JRPonline.com), an Apexi PFC from monkeywrenchracing, a TRD Japan CLutch, and a Turbo setup from stafford fabrications...your GT will be terrifically fast bro!!!!!

Celica isn't a bad car...its potential is severely limited, given that it's FWD. If your budjet is around 16, try looking into a WRX. You'd hafta look very hard, or even increase your budjet slightly. Like the othres said, Celica handles well. Even then, someone in a respectable RWD would send you home also.

get rid of your audio

get some coilovers, swaybars, and front and rear strut tie bars and camber links.

get a Turbo kit, and a PFC, tune the Turbo.

get some volks or other forged lightweight wheels and slap some sticky tires on em.

get a roll cage.

about 14000 later your car is a race car.

check c2power.com...his car is pushing around 300 hp with the new internals, and he is having his gearing in his tranny recast to make sure he can hold the torque when he turns his boost up even more!!! According to everyone that has his kind of setup (t3/t4 and new internals), the car is crazy fast

I just cant see throwing that much money into a celica to make it 300 hp. Throw that amount of money into something different, and you'll be a lot better off.
The one exception is if you're doing all the work, so the only cost is parts. Im considering doing this when i get done with school, blueprinting and rebuilding the whole motor, but we will see.

dont get me wrong, i love mine, and i have a shit ton of money in mine too, i wouldnt want to even guess how much. thats just my opinion, and i wouldnt want to throw that much at just the motor.
but like i said, if your doing it all yourself it would be a lot cheaper, which is what i will be doing.

Well it really depends on your style. I had a Supra before, but not like most of the ppl love that car, I didn t like it. So I bought my old celi. Then later this new one. But it was really weak, but I do liked the rest of it. So I decided to build it stron. Now all I can say I would not change it to any other car. The driving makes so much joy to me, and its still like a new toy every day. I couldn get bored still up today. It s like riding a big speeder Bike. So if I would have the option to start again I would.

autoXingrocks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh did i mention it rocks?!!!!
yeah you will have more fun with autoX in celica than drag.
Plus you will be faster than any other cars in its class.
Plus there are lots of mods to make your car handle like corvettes or better. Just think of it this way...AutoXing = Skills , Drag = money and car
