Front is done, and took off both of the rear shock absorber assemblies today, but I couldn't get the screw off of the top of the assembly! Neither of them!

I stuck a 6mm hex wrench in the threading of the piston that the bolt is held onto like the tech book said, and tried to use a 17mm wrench to take the nut off, but it won't budge. I even snapped a hex wrench off in the hole, but managed to get it out.

I also tried using an impact wrench, but that won't work.

Anyone have any idea on how to go about getting the nut off of the top of the shock absorber assembly?

Picture of the assembly. The nut that needs to come off is gold.

Ummm, yeah.

No shit.

Springs are compressed, but the nut will not come off. Just wondering if anyone had any tips.

did you use the braker?

or you can unfasten it with the shocks installed on the car.

What I did was take the stock assembly off the car, and try to unscrew the nut while the springs were compressed.

I have to take the stock springs off in order to get the aftermarket ones on.

I held a hex wrench in one hand, while turning the nut the other way with my other hand, and the thing won't budge one bit!

So you think that I should just compress the springs on the stock assembly, put it back on the car, and try to unscrew it while it's attached to the car?

Can I reach the nut from the trunk lining?

hey... the procedures might be inadeaute.
the nuts are tight. (maybe 70Nm)

at first you must fix the shock by some vice, use the pair of long 17mm wrentch and 1/2inch socket hex.

I tried that (minus the vice, perhaps I should buy one) and pulled on it so hard that the hex wrench snapped off inside of the hole!

I'll try again tonight.

Do you think that just an impact wrench would work, or does the inner piece have to be held by the hex wrench?

I had this EXACT same Problem.

What I did was take it over to Toyota mall Of Georgia and borrowed a 6mm Hex Breaker bar and a wrench.

Your asking to get the rear tophats off right?

Try this.

Came off first try.

Impact gun won't work. You need a breaker bar, vice and wrench.

Thanks.

There is a such thing as a hex breaker bar?

EDIT: Figured it out...you borrowed the hex, breaker bar, and a wrench.

So I should just try the breaker bar in order to loosen the screw, and then just unscrew it with a wrench?

Okay, one last question...

Was the breaker bar a wrench, or was it in socket form? Because I think it has to be in wrench form since the hex wrench has to be used at the same time, or if I just use the breaker bar (in socket form) really fast without the hex wrench, will it loosen the bolt?
