they're all supercharged engines with 275+ horses. my friend has a crown vic with a supercharger, and it is wicked fast.

5.0L v8 in n.h. we don't have supercharged ones. we had one come into the garage with a flat tire so we put in on the lift adn there is not much difference than a regular crown vic. they have a chip (which doesn't add too much)

There are these STUPID rumors I hear every now and then about cop cars having vette engines, supercharged engines, 400 HP, ect...

It's a freaking crown vic with some changes to the body and interior. MINOR engine changes. That's about it.

9 out of 10 times all they do is take off the speed limiter. Alll those cop camaros are just automatic zs. They do bulk up the electrical systems on cop cars for the lights and radios and stuff.

the regular cop cars in the streets are crap.
they are v8 with ecu and Intake. and some suspension.

However the CHP cars are faster. supposely v8 supercharged with 250 hp+. And we all know the chase car camaro with LS-1 motor with 350 hp. old school vette motor

Cop cars aren't very fast. I know because my dad used to have a Crown Vic as a company car a long time ago. The thing is... cop cars don't need to be that fast for pursuits. How often is the road open enough where you could just gun it in a straight line and outrun him? Not very often.

Only way to get away from a cop for sure is be on a bike. Goodluck to any cop driving anything if he wants to keep up with a R1 or R6. There was even an article in Super Street by a former CHP officer saying they didn't even bother with super bikes. rofl

Cop cars around here are slow as turtles. My town's police department has 1 5.0 mustang cop car that is bone stock and I know because I just do. That's the fastest they have here. One mag., I think it was SCC or Super Street, did a test of like 3 or 4 different cop cars and a Police Hummer including 0-60, 1/4 mile, slalom, skid pad, etc. They all performed like your grandparents Buick.

i had meant pursuit cars and highway and state cars when i said supercharged. my town has 4 different types of squad cars. we have some crown vics, but most are caprices, a few impalas, and 1 or 2 excursions for the supervisors. we also have ATVs to patrol the bike paths and just recently we got motorcycles, so good luck outrunning a cop in my town!

There is a BMW 540i Cop Car somewhere near Greer, SC close to the BMW plant. Would not want to try to outrun that, those things are quick, I drove one with a five speed when i was working at a repair shop and it has crazy amount of torque (compared to my celica atleast) thumbsup

Yeah, and they've got a Mustang GT down in your area. But I wouldn't run down in Charleston anyway, the streets are shitty and there's always an ass of traffic. Columbia's got a vette and a beefed up frickin' suburban. ohboy The whole suburban idea's retarded cause who wants to get into a high speed chase in that thing? It'd flip the moment you had to change lanes.

Suburban police vehicles are meant more for task forces, and not for pursuing.

Hawaii has been cracking down on street racing the past few years. Ever since I moved here I've seen more undercover police vehicles than the normal ones with their name on the side and big flashy lights. The undercover one's have a blue light on the top that's always on so you kind of have a chance to see it. Anyways, they drive Cobra's, vette's, camaro's, and SUV's. So you have to be careful where you speed. I got pulled over by the camaro once. It's nothing special. rofl

In rochester NY there is a rule where cops wont chase a bike going over 100 because it creates a more dangerous situation. They will take your license plate or radio ahead and catch you at stop lights though.

i've seen a black Dodge Intrepid used as an undercover patrol car in my area...it was weird since the undercover cops here aren't to creative (usually white crown vics with the spotlights)

Biggest we have down here is a Camaro for the CHP.

But I think it's out of service right now... The officer who usually drove it took it in for repairs, then got hit and killed when he was stopped on the side of the road (in the usual car, the 'maro was still in the shop, I believe).

Haven't seen it since.

I don't know about the states, but here in Canada, Tim Hortons gives all cops in uniform free coffee. So they like to hang out there & eat donuts. They turn round after 10 years on the force. laughsilly

I've read (read? passed tense) on one of magazine about cop cars (crown victorias).

It mension the there's nothing special about them. I belive the research was in Southern Cali. Damnit I can't remember the magazine's name.

Anyways, they said that it's all flat out stock. It also mension that back in the days the engine is specially made. The firing order is diff. I have verified this cause my brother worked for Modesto Ford and he works on them. That was in early 90's.

that celica cop car is awesome!! Imagine that car gutted and Turbo'd. ha, youll have fun trying to get away from it, and like someone said, if you fly by a cop, doing 200 in a busa for example, you might as well have fun going faster, because they wont even dispatch you, there too fast to catch!!!
