So if i decided to go ahead with this mod what will it do for my car. I understand that it will free up power from the crank because of the weight difference. But what will happen when this flywheel is put into our lift system. Will it speed it up or slow it down and also how would it make landing in lift?? So my question is what exaactly will this do for me???

most aftermarket lightweight flywheels are both lighter (obviously) and more hardy (able to take abuse even better) than the stock flywheel.

as you said it would free up a few whp most likely. as far as lift in cocern it really won't be a noticeable difference. the human body is not capable of measureing differences of only a few horses. technically it should speed it up--but don't get too excited because like i said its not going to be anything you can even remotely notice.

as far as landing in lift is cocerned..there will be no difference. the flywheel obviously doesn't raise your redline and it obviously doesnt generate lift at any earlier of an rpm. landing lift (without ecu modifications) is all about how you shift..your tach is gonna fall just as fast with a lightweight flywheel as it does with the stock flywheel in between shifts. thumbsup

What I can tell is that I don't know if most aftermarket flywheels are more hardy. There is a debate of which is better chromoly or aluminum? Most super light flywheels are aluminum. Stock is chromoly as is Toms, Trd Japan, etc. Some say it doesn't matter some say don't get aluminum. I don't know either way. All I know is driveabiltiy will suffer with a lightened flywheel in stop and go situations. Driving in traffic with a flywheel that weighs 6 lbs. less than stock has to be a hassle as are those dead stop launches (which doesn't bother me). I heard numerous times that you will land out of lift during up-shifts easier with a lightened flywheel do to the fact of less inertia amongst other things that I don't know are true or false. I myself need to get my clutch and probably flywheel replaced, so I am going to go lighter on the flywheel just to see first hand, but not too light.

As for hardness, it all depends on what type of material was used to make the flywheel. Aluminum itself has over 20 kinds... I doubt chrome or brushed mater.. It also depends on the condition at which those things are built at.. Some are more compressed than the other...

For rpm: engine w/ lighter flywheel will fall faster..but responds faster tho..

hardy = able to take abuse (in this case)

hardness, i dunno. aluminum is a rather soft metal..but i don't know how it would apply in this case.
