So some of you may know that I have higher compression pistons in my GT, with the MWR valves and valve springs...I just got off the phone with the shop that built my block, and asked them about porting and polishing the head, and putting the cat-cams cams in there, and they want $1,000 for the labor...the cams alone are gonna cost me $865, shipped from canada (for both cams)...JUST FAWK ME!!!!!!! cry cry Damn it money goes fast!!! I could get the TRD Japan clutch, and fidanza flywheel installed with parts and labor for $1,200...and that's at the dealer!!!!!!! (350 for the clutch set, $380 for the flywheel, and only $480 to install everything at the dealer) eek eek eek eek...I wanted to do the cam deal by the end of the year, but that's just not gonna happen now ... $2,000 is expensive...they only charged me $2,500 in labor when I had them build the whole thing!!!!!!! eek eek rolleyes rolleyes

hey bro - don't do the clutch/flywheel yet... wait until you have the cash for installing the cams and porting/polishing - I think you'll be much happier with the results, plus I really want to hear a review of those cams...

I have a Doctor that I'm doing a lawsuit for that teaches part time at a local community college, and this college happens to be where they have the toyota certified t-tech training and schooling...If I were brave enough I bet I could let them use my car as an example car, and teach how to properly change the cams and valves and balh blah blah in their advanced valvetrain course...I might even be able to get them to do it for free...hmmm...time to make a phone call

that's what I'm thinking...he even said that he could get me in the program if I were interested in just learning about toyota engines and drivelines...he has rediculous pull and I've known him for years...plus the class is where they certify the technicians...its like 4 years of college eek eek just to work on the cars...they do everything to the book and its kept under tight control...I'll call him tonight and figure things out...it would be rockin to get them in for under $1,000.00

DEFINATELY worth a shot since I'm sure they would like the experience. It's probably not something they do all the time. I think you have a good chance!!! Where in canada are you getting the cams from?

its a company called JRPonline.com...they are a distributor for cat-cams...they have an office here in the states in MAryland, but the main warehouse and HQ is in Canada...I called them and the cams come as a set and are super expensive...and they have like 1 set in stock, but can get more as needed...and apparently nobody has bought them yet

Just don't sign anything that may say that they won't be responsible for damaged incurred to your car during the install.

yeah, they are smog legal, and they are really really aggressive...if you want I can post the durations and lift specs. oh and I just talked to my doctor buddy, and he thinks he can talk to some of the people that run the college for the toyota techs, and get me in there thumbsup thumbsup...I'm just gonna have to wait cause I gotta get an apexi PFC, and tune it, or the VVT-i is gonna cause the timing to be way off in the engine

yeah, I've never drag raced the car, I've only done road racing at road atlanta (circuit style)...its much more fun. I've never even dynoed it. I had the internals done at around 5,600 miles, and I know it was a lot faster than a stock GT when I got it back. I might drag it when I get the cam job done...my engine should be done then...maybe thumbsup

yeah, its boring out (a little makes a big difference) the Intake and exhaust ports in the head, and polishing and smoothing things out so you get better airflow

nah, its just a simple machining job that lets the heads breath easier...you aren't machining for bigger valves...THE MWR vavles and valve springs fit great, I promise

What would be the gains for the cat cams? I'm guessing maybe 5 WHP. Worthless for somebody that doesn't want to add the necessary Intake, header, exhaust, valves and springs etc. To rich for my blood. Nobody has been able to produce the cam for our engines yet. I'll wait for Piper Cams if they ever come out with one. With a great history on cams and the new Lotus (both UK based companies), if anyone can do it they can. 18 weeks is the huge maybe on those. If anyone read other topics about it yeah it is Toyota's fault. I remember reading an article by the top Toyota engineers for our Celicas and he basically said that Toyota will not release any of the information about our engine's ECU programming or other things to the public that includes aftermarket companies. I can't remember what exactly the article said or what was entailed (it was 4 years ago and I should have saved it), but Toyota is a huge Stallion D*ck. People say where's the aftermarket support for our cars. Most people don't know it's mainly Toyota's fault. They keep on screwing it up.

sorry for not getting to things last night fellas, I had to go (girlfriend NEEDED me tasty wink grin grin)...Hephaestus: the cams will give much more gains than 5 hp...they are very agressive...the Intake duration is 256/220, and the exhaust duration is 245/213 with an Intake lift of 10.30 mm, and an exhaust lift of 9.50mm...they are very heavy duty, and with that kind of duration our cars will see more power from the 3000 - 6000 rpm range, but may have a slightly bumpier idle.

Ikin: yes, the PFC is smog legal, and about engine knock, etc...: our stock ecu has variable valve timing...which means to get the most efficiency for gas mileage as well as Performance, the computer changes the camshaft timing according to your driving. IF you go and swap out for more agressive cams that don't have the stock duration, and keep the stock ecu then then when the VVTi goes to change the cam timing, it will be advancing the cam duration according to cam timing that is no longer in place and your motor will get screwed...at least that's my understanding of it anyway. I've got a few emails out to a few shops that work on toyotas and I'll post it up when they reply...hope this helps thumbsup

dayum, you know ur s#!t, thanks for all the info thumbsup
but i dont think that it is smog legal though i got this from monkeywrecnhracing.com

"The Power FC replaces the factory ECU and controls all engine parameters.(Off road use only, no OBD-II) Installation is as easy as replacing the factory ECU."

its only for off road use depending on how you tune the car?

yeah, probably, and you will probably have to get a new crank from the dealer, or you can call some of the insurance companies, and see of they have some wrecked matrix's or celica GT's with the 1zz that they totaled due to a side impact, and see if you can get an engine out of one of those. I called my insurance company (friends with adjuster), and they had a matrix that was rear ended, and totaled, and he said that they would sell me the car for parts for like $400, and the engine only had like 23,000 miles on it!!!! you may want to look into that...I thought about doing this when I get more block work done, to get a few dynos and to be able to drive while they build my block

thanks but i have already consider that, but there is no gurantee that the person who drove it was soft on it or hard. i want my car to run perfectly thats why i want to make sure my i got my homework done (which you r doing for me thank you very much rice thumbsup grin)i want ot go at least 200k before the engine dies, i probably will end up buying the crank from the dealer or if i can find one with very few miles then i might go for it! by the way, if you dont mind, who r you emailing?
