JL has the best subs (W7 line)

I still say the Kappa Perfects might be the best speakers I've heard.

Amps... I'm not an expert

Comp: Focal or Alpine Type Rs for the money.
Sub: JL W7 12" with 1000 watt amp is all you would need
Amp: JL etc.

12's IMO have a better sound; they are the happy medium between rumble & punch.

JL, what are you guys smokin smile For almost everything the best company is Diamond Audio. Very expesive but the best. After that it is probably infinity for an all around system but for componet speakers some of the best you can get are focal.

ive got a 10" alpine type r and it hits just fine, if you put just about any 10" sub in our cars its going to hit. remember if you get just one w7 of any size with the right amp, then you and everyone around your car will feel it. thumbsup

ROOKIES!!!!! Image Dynamics and Digital Designs are by far the two top brands of subs. blows JL and Infinity out of the water.

for Image Dynamics is the ID max
Digital designs best sub is the 9500 lines.

for amps i would say US amps or Diamond Audio.

It's all a matter of opinion we all have different tastes in sound. But JL, RF, Alpine, and Infinity all get massed produced these two companies do not.

JBL makes the worlds most powerful amp: (8110 Watts RMS)
[Linked Image from teamgates.org]

You need some alternators to keep up with all those batteries:
[Linked Image from teamgates.org]

Subs you hook to that amp (800W RMS/5000W Peak):

If only I could have equipment like that. thumbsup

His name is Nate Munsen. Not sure if he competes anymore. But i know last year or 2 years ago he did. He was using 1 DD 9515 and hit 171db and also used a 10" and 12" and hit about 170db. The amps he was using were Directed 2400 i believe. He also had a small car to.

Sounds impossible to me.

I have seen with my own two eyes a car hit 155db & the fucking thing nearly exploded. The sound pressure was pushing the doors out & all the windows were moving in and out. It took 4 X 15" subs and piles of wattage to do it.

170db range needs about 15,000+ watts minimum & a wack of subs to push it. Along with a concrete lined van with 1" plexi windows & 1/2" plate steel interior.

OKAY ... I get it. (1 sub in 1 cubic yard of air) - It creates the same sound pressure as (6 subs in 6 cubic yards of air). Something is wrong with this??

Is SPL (Sound Pressure) the same as DB (Decibels)?

the W7 is better product than Rockford anything.

This is always an ongoing debate, but if you are really into wanting the "best of the best", you start getting into some really esoteric things (I'm a car audio nut... so here you go)

Top of the line system:
HU: direct digital output (only a few do this, most you must mod to be able to)
DAC: Image Dynamics external DAC (no longer made)
Crossover: Sinfoni Phaser Pro (http://www.sinfoniusa.com/phaser.html)
Volume control: Sinfoni PremierOne (http://www.sinfoniusa.com/premier.html)
Wiring: Ixos home line (http://www.ixos.co.uk/)
Front Amplifier: Tru Technology A Class (http://www.trutechnology.com/a_class.htm)
Front Speakers: Morel Supremo Tweeters, Morel Hybrid 4", Morel Elate 9" midbass (http://www.morel.co.il/)
Subwoofer Amplifier: depends on how much power you want... but the Tru Hammer is awesome (http://www.trutechnology.com/hammer_series.htm)
Subwoofer: JL W7, Image Dynamics IDMAX, or JBL W12GTi

If you want more opinions, check out:

forum.elitecaraudio.com

For a few of the above product reviews, msg me... I am running the Ixos wiring and the Morel front stage above wink

Kicker Comp CVR's, with the Kicker Competition 2000 watt amp, this shit pounds in my friends GMC Denali, he's got 4 15"s and they just absolutely pound, he had to reinforce his rear windows with plexi-glass behind them, on the interior, so that he wouldn't blow his windows. when we first tested it he blew out his rear window... lol. it works best off his Clarion head unit, we tried many other heads, such as JVC, Alpine, and even a Pioneer avic n-1 and it sounded best off of the Clarion Chameleon headunit, the one with like 364685716723641 colors it can change to and it can even match the color of your dash... yeah, that one. thumbsup

SPL is obviously dumb, all you have to do to make your stereo louder is make your car smaller! thumbsdown

I didn't bother reading all the replies, but did catch that you're looking at two 12" subs and don't want to go as extreme as two 12w7's.

The smart way to go for you would be one 12w7. You could go with two lesser 12" subs, but all that'd do is take up more space. I personally have two 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2 (discontinued, but it was one of their higher end lines) powered by a 800 watt amp. MORE than enough bass. 12" subs would have been TOTAL overkill. The only thing 12's doing that 10's doing is produce the ultra-low end sound frequencys. Unless your goal is to setoff car alarms across a parking lot, go with one good 12 or two high end 10's.

This is my dream system

1 12" ID max
1 USA1000 amp (Usamps)
Focal mids and highs
1 USA5600 (USamps)

This wont shatter windows but will sound clean and have a really nice thump.

This set up here would cost around $2300.

The reason i chose USamps is because of the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) rating which are around .006% which is really good. most are around .1%

nice system

i have a usa-400x in my system right now and believe me, the thd is just the beginning, these amps sound like nothing else. Better than my orion stuff and argurably cleaner an brighter than my arc 2100cxl...
