having a little problem with my 00 gt. came to work this morning and ecu threw up a CEL, dropped by the dealer and laughed in their face when they said that plugging the scanner in would be 1 hour labor because it took about 50 minutes to pull the code up. lmao. so went to a autozone got it done in 3 minutes and pulled up a code P0440 and described as "EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction" ive pulled up codes a year or two back after running the car hard with the stock cat and pulls up a code saying "catalytic converter under threshhold" so never really cared about it. not sure if this is just a different scanners lingo. so im really just curious if anyone knows what the code for evap emission control system is standing for so if anyone knows or has a manual id sure appreciate it. thanks in advance

are you serious? ive heard of that. but never thought celicas were victims of it. thats the exact code that it would throw up under that emissions code? or just a guess on what might be kicking the CEL on?

Every car can fall victim to that.

Not tightning your gas cap is one of like 7 ways that you could receive this CEL. Hopefully, it's your problem, cause other causes would be costly to fix.

Yep, luckily you do not have a Focus. I have that same problem because of the Gas Cap and it started doing weird things. I had to get the Catalytic Converter replace, but luckily there was a recall on this.
