I think the parking brake on my '01 GT is stretched a tad & I would like to tighten it up.

How do I adjust it?

Under the car there should be a turnbuckle where the single cable meets the two that go back to the wheels.

I already crawled under. There are two seperate cables running from front to back. So does that mean that the adjustment will be where the handle is, inside the console?

There must be a thread somewhere on upgrading to the short shifter; that article would be useful for figuring out the easiest way to take the console apart. smile

taking the console apart isn't hard at all, pull your e-brake, put your car in neutral. then pull up the plastic around the e-brake and you should be good to go, there's screws on the side panels of the center console that you can unscrew to get to the lower parts of the e-brake and shift assembly, hope this helps thumbsup

Undo the 2 10mm bolts in the armrest. Undo the 2 screws on either side of the console by the front of the seats. Remove the shifter housing. Undo the 2 screws below the climate controls. Undo the 2 screws holding in the pwr window switches. Unplug the harness for the pwr windows. Lift up the console. Listen the top nut next to the brake. Use a 10, or 11mm wrench to tighten the bottom nut, or remove the top one, and use a deep socket ratchet. Tighten it down as much as you want, but test it before you lock it down. I have mine set up for 3 clicks max. Tighten the top nut while holding the bottom one with a wrench. Put the console back the opposite way you removed it. That's it. Should take about 5-10 min total.

I remember reading about the parking brake adjustments somewhere. I think it was here or the other site. Oh, it's here. Go to the Tech Info, go down to braking, and download the info.

I got in there this afternoon & adjusted up the parking brake. Its nice & tight now. Went for a few high speed spins in a gravel parking lot to test it out. thumbsup
