Hi,

I got an inverter that came with a cigarette lighter adapter.

I'd like to permanently mount it and power it from the fuse pannel. I'm figuring easiest way to do this would be cut off the adapter and get a fuse tap. The inverter is rated to 20amps. Which fuse would be best to tap?

Thats the one I'm thinking of, but it currently has a 15amp fuse, Is it safe to put a 20 in there? Am I liable to blow it if I plug something into the cigarette lighter socket while something is plugged into the inverter?

I am not sure you just might hurt your cigarette lighter if you run to many amps through it. But I can have both my lights on and use my cigarette lights without blowing my fuse.

Sorry you got so many lame posts, here is what you need to do.

By all means tap the fuse, use an "add-a-circut," can be found at Autozone or Pepboys. If your powering neons or the like you will be fine. Also using an add a cirucut give you a extra port so your cig lighter and its fuse and not effected at all unlike using a blade tap.

Those little black boxes you see are the add a circuts, the one on the far lower left is the cig fuse. The red 10amp fuses you see come with it and the original fuse the the system you tap goes under that. Plug and play gotta love it. thumbsup

Fuses do not control the amount of amps. They only blow if you exceed the amp rating.

Many thanks Gen7fan, thats exactly what I was looking for. Really stupid question though, I only see 1 wire coming off of each of those add a fuse things. Do you use one of them for ground and another for power, or ground to something else?

That looks a lot neater than I expected it would. I'll check out pepboys tomorrow, thanks again!

I know that smile he was asking about puting a 20 amp fuse in where there is suposed to be a 15. I ment then he might be pulling to many amps through is he pus in a stronger fuse.
