the act street clutch is an awesome clutch for daily driving and also can take the abuse of the occasional race. it doesnt have a harsh engagement (such as single disc active racing clutches) and you should still be able to do 6k rpm launches without burning (or smelling) your clutch thumbsup

as for flywheels..many celica ownders opt to go for the fidanza series wheels thumbsup

totally agreed, i have the act street clutch and it is good, as well as the fidanza flywheel, i would recommend both.

actually my Clutchmasters Stage 3 which has a quick (you would call harsh) engagement doesn't smell. That's the point. It engages so quickly there is no clutch slippage.

nowhere in my post did i say that 'harsh engagement' has anything to do with slippage or burning your clutch (and therefore smelling it) thumbsup

clutches that have a harsh engagement are usually much more 'sturdy' (for lack of a better word) and have less discs (such as a singled disc active clutch). therefore it can handle much more abuse than a normal (streetable) clutch with more discs..therefore it doesn't burn and doesn't smell.

we're saying the same things...maybe you just didnt understand what i was saying the first time around.

virtually all racing clutches have a very harsh engagement because they are more able to take abuse which makes them much better at high rpm's (especially when launching). but, this same attribute is what makes them less streetable (no one likes being 'yanked' around when shifting).

did i clear myself up?

ahhh...I see what you're saying. yes we are saying the same thing. but really what I read could be interpreted two ways since you have the two ideas together in one sentence. I just gotta have more faith in you. grin

^^ yeah, i could explained myself better..what i said in parentheses though wasn't meant to go along with the rest of the sentence

like when i said (such as single disc active racing clutches)..that was only meant to refer to the 'harsh engagement' which i mentioned right before that thumbsup

I would have written "Even though it doesn't have a harsh engagement (AS DO single disc active racing clutches), you should be able to do 6k rpm launches without burning (or smelling) your clutch."

I don't mean to go off the track a little here, but I saw this topic and I have to ask. I need a clutch desperately. I only have bolt ons and won't ever take my car near the TQ ratings of most of the clutches people have installed on their Celicas. I was thinking going w/ a new stock clutch and lighter flywheel just to get it over and done with. I don't want a super light weight flywheel light Fidanza or any Act products on my Celica. That light of a flywheel isn't needed for me and I don't like Act. I was thinking also of going RPS clutch, the street one that holds up to 230 TQ, and flywheel (9.5 LBS.). Any body have that combo? Is it worth it or should I go stock clutch and slightly lighter flywheel?

^^ Even if you get a streetable Stage 1 clutch it will still last you longer than your weak stock clutch. Clutchmasters is a quality brand. Smooth engagement and toughness tend towards a longer life, clutches or people. I'll bet any flywheel lighter than stock will make you happy, even the light Fidanza. The only reason not to get the Fidanza is if you want to be able to take off in 1st without revving too high. Or if you don't want your launches at the track to suffer too much, but IMO the lw flywheel makes up for the slight loss on the launch.
