Problem with lift
pulling out of work today onto the highway i went to hit lift 1-2 and instead of hte familar sound kicking it at 6.4k, i went all the way to 7k w/ no sound, and then at 7 my needle just bounced there and the car stalled, almost like fuel cut off or something...i'm hoping i just need new lift bolts...anyone else ever have this problem?

Yeah, my dumbass has done that before at night while I wasn't paying attention to the engine temperature. I thought my car was fucked up.

In order for lift to function, your temperature has to go up two clicks from the lowest position. It's kind of a safety function so that the engine is warm before lift is engaged, making the stress easier on the engine due to the fact that it's warm and the oil is thinner.

EDIT: I believe that the temperature has to go up at least two clicks. It's either two or one, but I'm almost positive that it's two.

^^ yeah it kinda helps to have the engine warmed up fully so you don't destroy your engine. n00b's know that!

with the old lift bolts ('00-'2) you have to have the temp up two clicks as you said.

with the new lift bolts--you can hit lift w/no warmup whatsoever..even though i would recommend warming up anyway..running your engine hard when it's 'cold' is never a good idea, in my opinion.

i have also done this before trying to show off in the parking lot.
rev'd up, dropped the clutch zoomed out the parking lot and then i hit fuel cut off earlier than expected
i would bet money you didnt let the engine warm up ( two clicks ) before you tried to engage lift thumbsup

8600 rpm killer!!!!!!

haha i've done that NUMEROUS times...just not thinking about warming the engine and trying to accelerate too fast onto the highway or something. rofl

but now i don't have to worry about it...i put the '03 lift bolts in so i'm good to go at whatever time...but like i said, i try not to run the engine hard when its cold.

In the automatic when its cold, it shifts to the next gear about 5000RPM; that is nice. Saves your motor. thumbsup

you notice this easily with short rem or CAI.
when you have Intake, you have to usually warm your car for about 2 mins for the temperature to go 2 click.
but if you don't have Intake, its very hard to have this problem

^ not necessarily. before i added my Intake it would still have a cutoff at 7k. i remember when i took it for a test drive at the dealer i didnt warm it up and it just cut off at 7k.

No salesman comes on test drives at the Toyotas in my area.

If they did, they better bring a clean pair of underware, cause I test drive them for a reason. grin

yeah in regaurds to this thread... This has happen to me before. The first time it happend i was like "oh shit wtf happend" I was like what the hell i tried to hit lift but it didnt engaged. but then i saw "oh" my temp needle was at 1 click and i was like oh "duh foo your car is still cold." So yeah your lift wont engage until the car is warm enough cause yeah you try and hit lift when the car is cold and your rpm will stop at 6 and half or so. In my car when that happend it just felt like a fuel cut off and the motor sort of choked haha oh well but not i know! thumbsup

I always let the motor idle for a few minutes & take it real nice and easy until she gets up to normal operating temperature. thumbsup
