i am getting a good ass deal on sri n cai,but dunno which one to put on.if i put CAI,i am worried about getting hydrolocked.if i put the SRI,the gains r not gonna be as good.what do you guys think i should put on?
pros of a cai: -slightly more power (1-2 more whp over sri). however, if you add exhaust components such as an exhaust or header this gap will widen even more in favor of a cai
pros of an sri: -virtually no opportunity for hydrolock -better 'show' (looks better when you pop the hood) -easier install -easier maintenance (don't have to take the bumper off to change or clean the filter)
cons of a cai: -hydrolock POTENTIAL (although there is very, very low chance of this it does happen occasionally) -harder install -harder to change or clean the filter (usually have to take the bumper off)
cons of an sri: slightly less power than cai
so you really have to answer your own question yourself--what do you value more?? if you want the extra horsepower (which is a very legitimate reason) then go with a cai and stay away from really deep puddles & flooding (you basically have to submerge the whole filter to get hydrolocked)
if you like power but are more interested in style and ease of maintenance, then go with an sri.
in EACH case..get the heatsheild/splash guard -- an sri will get an extra whp or so with the heatshield by keeping even hotter air out and it will also do you good with a cai by keeping excess water from the filter
you really don't need to take the bumper off to clean/change filter for the CAI. just peel back the wheelwell plastic, and you're there. short is does looks better in a way. this is my second car w/SRI, and i can honestly tell you that i feel no difference compare to stock airbox...
by the way, where is a good site to get the injen heat shield for cheap???
Yeah I really like the science behind the TPR cai, fins, proper dimensions for MAF environment, and good dyno numbers. The versatility of being able to switch back and forth between cai and sri mode is very attractive given the fact that it freakin rains allot up here (except in the summer). only problem is the TPR is really hard to get a hold of.
AEM has good dyno numbers and a proven history and they are readily available.
K&N also has good numbers, a strong rep and is not in such short supply, and has a special sock like filter cover for wet weather to repel water and still let air in.
Who knows , I'm getting tired of waiting so it will probably be an AEM or K&N.
can anyone post a picture of tpr Intake? anyone thought of putting a aem sticker on tpr Intake and then when the cop pops the Intake open, and doesnt see the carb number, gives you a ticket you buy an aem Intake with the same color and put it in there and show it to the cop that you got a carb number on it and it was a factory defect.
I really can't imagine it being that difficult, they are very similar devices, on the off chance you needed hoses or clamps that stuff should be readily available at any auto parts outlet.
